I was bidding (unsuccessfully) for the last 4-5 days of January - no luck at all, even if I (foolishly) hit $159 when bidding. Luckily I've got no matching offer back then!!!

Today I wasn't expecting to win at all, but gave it a try. So, started at $110, nothing; then raised to $115 - was refused; $120 - got a counteroffer around $150. Then I knew there was some available hotel inventory and the price level was quite low. Refused the offer, added more zones and raised the price to $125 - was refused; continued adding zones and raised the price to $128 only - and, finally, booked the hotel!

So, the NY trip: early March dates (5 days) at a 4* Downtown hotel, for $128 per day. Not bad! I assume that if I've waited for a week or two, I might have gotten even a better price(around $115). But it's FIVE days, and I didn't want to risk ending up with no matching offer from PL (due to lack of room inventory for an extended stay). So I booked early!

My strategy was simple. I've selected 3 initial zones (ESB, MTW, MTE) for $110, then added 2 more (CPS, Downtown Fin district) for $115, then added Chelsea and maybe TS more (for the $120 bid). Probably I've hit the Tribeca too, but I knew it was too low to be a serious bid. All these were my acceptable zones for a 4* hotel in Manhattan. Then I added some free re-bid zones (there are 7 in total) to slightly up the bids, ' cause I knew there was a hotel coming in my way. So, do your homework about free re-bid zones and think that you can add $3 per new re-bid, thus keeping your overall bid amount within reasonable limits. Another person posted that he's got the same NY Marriott Downtown for $127 (late Feb-early March dates), so if $125 was rejected and $127-128 were accepted, then the threshold is somewhere in-between :-) for early March dates.

I wish you luck and I hope will get a similar and even better deal! I just wanted to encourage you & tell you that things are warming up on PL for March dates.

I've used Betterbidding PRICELINE link to place my today's bids. Thanks for a very informative site & forum!

Congratulations on your success!

Very nice deal for this Downtown property. Glad to see you're pleased with the results and this works well for your plans.

A moderate walk from this hotel (10-15 minutes) i like and recommend this pizza place a lot (it's a restaurant, not a slice shop):

Adrienne's Pizza Bar

54 Stone Street

New York, NY

Stick with the 'rectangle' pizza which is what they're known best for, and it's very reasonably priced (~$18 for a pie) considering the quality of the ingredients (but drinks are a little on the high side)).

Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.

Enjoy your stay.
