d4whatver82 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Hi, Looking to Vaca during August 2012 in Chicago. I've tried google to see if there are any dates I should avoid that month and it looks like only the first part of the month is bad. so I was thinking the 15-21 of the Month. Also, I'd like to know how early I can bid on a room with price line? Could I do it now? Does it affect the price? Thanks in advanceDrew
AaronJB Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Lollapalooza is generally a real problem the first weekend of the month (if it takes place again on that weekend.) The Air/Water show mid-month gets some traffic, but generally not too bad. There may be random conventions at any time, and some of those may not yet be on the calendar. Please read the FAQ in regards to timing. Please let us know when you have confirmed date/s and we would be happy to offer suggestions.May through July is usually a busy/expensive time in Chicago due to the nice weather, but higher prices can occasionally stretch into early August.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
d4whatver82 Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 Tried to edit my first question. I Looking at August 15-21 2012. Good flight prices during that time, and the beaches are still open. Also, is it too early to bid on a hotel now.. Thanks
d4whatver82 Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 LOl visited that FAQ. thanks
AaronJB Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 It's not too early to start looking. What would be your desired budget per night, and is the NMA-River North area the only zone of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
d4whatver82 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 I'm shooting for as cheap as possible. I've seen some bids on here go for about $55, but really anywhere between there and the $70 range is good. Lincoln Park, Millennium, and River North. We will not have a car.

While rates can certainly change between now and your stay, i think you're currently looking at closer to $100 and probably more for a 4* hotel. Also, AaronJB can comment better than me, but i'd tend to focus more on NMA and the Loop as Lincoln Park is a little far north for a week long stay (and no car). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these links before replying.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. AaronJB Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Lincoln Park is a very nice area and a lot to do. It is also bizarrely hotel-light - a higher-end hotel could do very well serving the area (especially the South end, near Old Town and Lincoln Park Zoo), as there are only a handful of hotels North of the city. That said, the lack of competition in the Lincoln Park area means that discounts are often not as substantial, and the few hotels up that way are often booked heavily by those who are coming primarily to go to Wrigley to see the Cubs (such as the nearby Best Western Hawthorne Terrace, which is frequently booked solid during baseball season.) I'd recommend visiting Lincoln Park, as there's a lot it has to offer. However, the hotel situation there is just not optimal.Additionally, it's a bit of a trek to get to the core area of downtown from Lincoln Park.I'd also say that - while this is not the prime period of Summer - it is still going to likely run $100 +/- for a 4*, and I would suggest looking at River North-NMA over Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park, or at least giving River North/NMA priority over MP/Loop/GP. You have time and it's worth starting lower, but August still definitely sees a good deal of traffic.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
