Hotwire Hotel: 4* New York City (Empire State Building) The Kitano

I have never used Priceline for NYC (only Boston) so I am not as familiar with the usual prices in this area.

I am leaving 3/25 on a cruise out of NYC on 12th Ave and 55th St. I was originally trying to stay in Hells Kitchen since it is close (looks like only 4* is ink48). I bid all the way up to $128 with no success (using rebid techniques and started at $105).

I then tried doing 4*s elsewhere in the city with little success as well, including Midtown East, Chelsea, Empire State, SoHo & Times Square(up to $128) with no success either.

I reviewed other 4* successes on this site for $100-120 so am confused why I am having so much trouble. Am I booking too soon? Is this just a bad date or are there any other tips I could try tomorrow?

Thanks,

Megan

Rates are date specific so you won't always be able to replicate other winning bids on the board, especially when your dates are different then the person who won the winning bid.

Rates for your particular dates are a bit higher than usual for this time of year, and most 3* hotels i'm finding in the city are $200+ through conventional booking channels, and the least expensive 4* hotel i'm able to find it priced at $225... $100 off may not be in the cards for this stay at this time.

There is no telling if rates will come down, or continue even higher, between now and your stay. However, with above noted, i'm guessing you may not be too far off from a win...

Did you include all the zones above when you had bid as high as $128? Are you able to stretch your budget a bit more or do you prefer to try for a lower rated hotel or wait it out and hope for lower rates in the weeks ahead?

Assuming you're flying into town, which airport do you fly in to (and do you arrive early or late in the day/nite)?

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

PS- also check out our Pre Cruise Hotels site which will show you hotels near the pier (as well as links to driving/walking distance to the pier from each hotel) and makes it easy to see how much more/less it will cost to stay closer/further away or go higher/lower in star rating.

Well I had been trip-watching this date on Hotwire and recieved a notice today rates have gone down. I came across 4* ESB for $156 on Hotwire (Assuming it is The Kitano as the only amenities are Business Center & Boutique Hotel). I usually find I can get a slightly cheaper rate when going through Priceline which is why I tried the prices I did and the 4 star rating.

I am not sure if I should just buy the $156 rate on Hotwire (for $198 total after Tax) or just keep trying Priceline.

To answer some of your questions: Yes i did include all the zones I stated for up to $128. I am able to stretch my budget, just looking for the best price for a 4*. Location isn't the biggest deal as we don't mind taking a cab to the Cruise port.

Also I live in Southeastern Connecticut so will be taking the Commuter train into Grand Central during the day on Saturday.

PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, but there are instances where this is not the case.

You can try rolling the dice and hoping for lower prices in the days/weeks to come, but given your current rejected bids, i think i might just take the HOTWIRE offer. As I agree with your guess above of the Kitano, and assuming we're right, this would be a very good deal with this hotel going for $289/nite for your dates thru conventional booking channels. As well, it gets great reviews and this hotel would be convenient to your arrival at Grand Central Station.

Just got The Kitano for $163 ($206 with taxes).

4*

Amenities: Business Center & Boutique Hotel

Yesterday this was up for $156 and today for $160 (as of now) so the price has been fluctuating it seems the past few days).
