gdeleneu Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Hi,We are looking to get a hotel room in a 2.5*+ hotel for less than $90 per night in the South Central Park area (Time Square, Chelsea, Midtown East & West, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden). We will be staying from Feb 10th to Feb 13th.We have never used Priceline/Hotwire and would like some advice on the bidding strategy. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Few comments before bidding:In NYC we typically recommend trying to stick with the higher rated hotels. While there may be some hotels at the lower star ratings which would suit your needs fine, there may be some which do not, and with PRICELINE/HOTWIRE you don't get to choose which type you will get. While a higher rated hotel doesn't ensure that you'll love your hotel, it's a bit safer bet then the lower rated hotels where there seems to be a bit more variation within the same star rating. If bidding 3.5* or less in CPS, the Hudson Hotel is an option, which while centrally located, has notoriously small rooms, would this be an acceptable outcome? Also, at 3.5* and below, some of the 'known' hotels in the MTE zone can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. gdeleneu Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 Thanks for your reply. We're looking for cheap hotel (max $90 / night) but with a good location as it is our first time in NYC and we'd like to visit as much as possible. The Hudson Hotel would be an option if there is availabilities for our price range. If the hotel is at 15 min to the subway it's okay as long as we're still centrally located, we're ready for a lot of walking ;-)So what do you recommend us for the bidding strategy (I've only tried Priceline yet). Thanks,Greg
