bestNYer Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 HI,First time posing on this wonderful site. I'm looking to book a 4* hotel in NYC for 02/15-02/17. Looking to pay up to $150 a night (total after tax). Which area do you think I can find the nicest hotel in? Also, does bidding a higher amount score you a better hotel? Eg: If someone wins a 4* for let say $120, If i go ahead and bid $150 will I score that same hotel and be paying extra for nothing or will I be getting a nicer hotel?Thank you!
AaronJB Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Bidding more does not guarantee a different/nicer hotel - it could very well result in overbidding for a hotel you could have gotten for less.Which NYC PRICELINE zone/s would you be interested in staying within?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
bestNYer Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 I'm not particular about a location. My priorities are a nice hotel and a central location (subway etc.) Or is this critera not specific enough?
thereuare Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 My priorities are a nice hotel and a central location (subway etc.)The 'problem' is that star ratings are subjective... you may find some 4* hotels that you are are not worth the rating and some 3.5* hotels that you'd prefer to some of the 4* hotels. Others may feel the complete opposite about the very same hotels. You can choose to either bid on PRICELINE and be willing to accept any hotel at the star rating (or higher) in the zone that you select OR you can use HOTWIRE and be able to take a guess as to the hotel offered (and get a little more comfort that the hotel is a 'good' one based upon the percent recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests, how previous guests have rated the hotel on certain criteria, the Tripadvisor rating (if shown), etc. The trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. bestNYer Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 Looking over the hotwire and priceline wins it seems to me that they offer more or less the same hotel types albeit priceline being a little cheaper, whilst hotwire offering you the comfort of having some sort of knowledge as to what your booking. If this is a correct assumption I would go with pricline and hope for the best. Thanks for your help and advice!
thereuare Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Did you want to try for a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, TS, ESB and/or CPS zones (are all of these acceptable?)... and a maximum bid of $125 (which would bring you pretty close to $150 all-in)Please confirm the above zones and maximum bid price and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bestNYer Posted February 2, 2012 Author Report Posted February 2, 2012 All these zones are great! Thanks again for your help. I keep checking pricleine from your links ;)
thereuare Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 At the 4* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, ESB and CPS...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125If the above is rejected, i'll point out that HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Times Square zone for $133/nite with:Suite, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, BusinessThis matches previous reports for the Doubletree Guest Suites and may be something you want to consider as it gets very good reviews and is very centrally located. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Any questions feel free to ask... otherwise good luck and let us know how it goes.
