l8rg8r Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Hi there,Newbie here. First things first, thank you so much for all your efforts in running this site - great info! I wish I had found this earlier as I have been using both priceline and hotwire for the last several years.I'm planning a vacation to Banff, AB and was looking to get some help identifying a 4.5* hotel in Banff. Details below:Price: $174.5 per nightDates: 2/17-2/20Amenities: Smoke Free RoomsFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)High-Speed Internet AccessSpa Services----------Previous research on this forum indicates that the RimRock is the most likely hotel but I did not see any actual "win" posted for Rimrock. Also, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could let me know about any deals at the Fairmont Banff Springs. Thanks much and keep up the good work - I'd be happy to help on this forum going forward.
thereuare Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Unfortunately a property with this amenity set has not yet been reported to the board. When trying to guess a HOTWIRE hotel you want not just the star rating to match, but all the amenities too. Given that the RimRock has previously been seen with just a Smoke Free amenity i wouldn't necessary draw the conclusion that this is the hotel you're seeing above. As a previous HOTWIRE user you're aware that amenities (and star ratings) can often change, so the RimRock Resort would certainly be one possibility, but wouldn't go as far to suggest that this is likely based solely upon the same star rating (for example the Royal Canadian Lodge could have been upgraded and have a slightly new amenity set as well)Sorry we can't be of more help with this one at this time. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too!Let us know whatever you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help along the way. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
l8rg8r Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Thanks for the prompt reply. On the HOTWIRE "retail" tab, the Royal Canadian lodge is listed as a 4* property as is the Fairmont Banff Springs. I don't believe there is a differential in star rating between the retail tab and the hotwire "hot rates" so I'm inclined to believe that the 4.5* property is the RimRock - of course, there are no guarantees. Maybe I will book hotel for 1-night and then add additional nights if it does turn out to be the Rimrock. Will also look at PRICELINE (through your link) and see if anything interesting turns up - more risky on priceline since their 4* classifications incl. some hotels that I'm not interested in.
thereuare Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 There are inconsistencies between the HOTWIRE 'retail' star ratings and those obtained thru the opaque side of their service. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
