Priceline Hotel: Las Vegas, Strip South or North. April 24 - May 1

Going to Vegas for the first time for a week. First time using Hotwire/Priceline as well. Hotwire has some good prices (5 star Las Vegas Strip - North area hotel 95 a night, 5 star Las Vegas Strip - South area hotel 121, 4 star Las Vegas Strip - South area hotel 61 a night..)

I just have no idea if I should try out Priceline's NYOP or stick with Hotwire?

Any guesses on what resorts those 3 places I selected would be? Not really dead set on a 5 star over a 4 star, just trying to avoid a couple of the 4 stars and I'd be willing to stay in any of the 5 stars. (Would really like the Venetian or Caesars palace etc but I'm sure it'd probably be the Trump or Aria or the like.)

Should I try out Priceline and see what hits I get? Buddy got the Aria for 110 a night for 4 nights around the same travel times (He posted his winnings on the board here)

Please help a newb out. (I did click the HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links through here, and will when I book, thanks!)

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Please provide the amenities showing with the listings in question. In addition, please take a look at the site's Hotwire Hotel List for Vegas - that shows hotels that have been reported to the board, and the amenities associated with each. Please let us know if you would like us to try and confirm guesses.

This thread provides a discussion of the differences in the services, as well: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire. HOTWIRE is generally more expensive than PRICELINE, but also less opaque.

Let us know your thoughts and we would be happy to offer further suggestions.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

What the 'best' option is for this stay ultimately comes down to your budget... ideally what is your maximum budget (per nite before taxes and fees) for this stay? From there we'll have a better idea of whether the best value is at the 4* or 5* level for this trip.

I'm thinking the 5 star on the North Strip would be the Trump. (Only one with a kitchenette which is listed as an amenity)

The cheapest flights I can find down are around 900 bucks CND. I don't want to Priceline the flights and get bad times and bad layovers or anything. The direct flights with good times are the cheapest anyway, That's through westjet as well, which has the first bag free. (We are traveling from Calgary, AB)

Off of hotwires site for a 'vacation package' they have the Trump for $1,529 (For the two of us) That means I only really have ~600 bucks to spend on a hotel to get it 'lower' then the price of that vacation package. Booking through hotwire at 93 a night brings the hotel cost to 753 so I'd spend more to book my flight and hotwire the hotel. (Although, if it were the Venetian I think that'd be worth it..)

I could Priceline a hotel and start at like 75 bucks, for a 5 star on the north strip, but I doubt that'd get any hits.

Any ideas?

Please change the currency drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.

Is Trump an acceptable property for this trip, as it wouldn't be my first choice for a first time visitor given it's slightly off-strip and doesn't have a casino (even if you're not a gambler, for a first time visitor you should at least see the slots, table games, etc each time you leave the hotel), and it lacks any 'theme' which is all part of the first time Vegas experience.

I changed the prices to USD, but it makes little to no difference. CDN and USD are so close the prices went down a buck.

I tried Priceline (North and South) and went to a bid of $85 (USD) but didn't catch anything.

Honestly, I think you are right about the Trump. We'd love a themed 5 star one but may have to go for a themed 4 star.

Today, but where will they be 2-3 years from now, still close to parity or more 'normalized' 10-20% difference? Others will come upon this post for years to come, so having the rates in US dollars eliminates any question as to the 'true' price based upon current currency conversions at that time.

If the Trump is not a realistic option, then there is no basis to use $600 as your alternative price to beat. My guess is that a 5* would likely be ~$100-$110 bid price... the 4* Tropicana may be available for less than $60/nite.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

I think I'm going to keep trying to PRICELINE it. If I can get one of the North area 5 star ones (Wynn, Venetian, Palazzo) I'd be really really happy. Need to wait another half a day so I can rebid. (Have the south strip entered, don't want to get the Aria.)

Do you figure 100 (USD) would be a realistic cost per night for one of the north 5 star hotels?

Thanks!

I'm doubtful that $100 will be enough for a 5* in the Strip North zone as this stay includes weekend nites, and surprisingly, Sunday and Monday are the most expensive nites of this trip, with these nites costing $400+ thru traditional retail bookings.

To get close to your budget for the complete stay you'll likely need to include the Strip South zone, or you could try (but it would still be a stretch) SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID... if you succeed in the Strip North zone for 4/24-4/29, you could then possibly try the Strip South zone for 4/29-5/1.
