Dyota Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Hi,I have clicked on the PRICELINE link. Can you please advise on how I should bet on priceline for the requirements I have stated previously. Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Your budget will not likely be enough for a 4* hotel but did you want to try that first since you're looking for the highest rated hotel within your budget? (if you're looking to stretch your budget to $120-$130 i do think you have a chance at a 4*). If bidding 4* are MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB all acceptable? When bidding 3.5* are MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB and MSG all acceptable? Note at the 3.5* level and under the CPS has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms and the MTE zone (at 3.5* and under) begins to have some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... are both of these zones/conditions acceptable? Please confirm the zones and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Dyota Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Would a stay in a 3.5* hotel if to exclude cps and mte be more comfortable compared to including these areas, due to the shortcomings that you said?Or is the 4 star hotel a far more better option for comfort? What would you personally suggest? Thanks,Dyota
thereuare Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Both are certainly do-able, but it really comes down to budget and what you want from the hotel stay... if you spend an extra $20-$30/nite would it prevent you from doing other things in the city that you might otherwise have done if you spend less on the hotel room?Personally i'd probably avoid CPS at the 3.5* level as i've had very small hotel rooms and, for me, i enjoy relaxing in the room at the end of the day, and am not as comfortable in extremely small rooms (which isn't to say for that it's not right for somebody who leaves early, explores all day, and only returns at nite to sleep in the bed).As far as MTE at the 3.5* level, i'd be more inclined to include this zone vs. the CPS above, but it is an easier decision during the Spring/Fall when the weather is nicer vs. the Winter/Summer (when it's cold or humid, respectively)With all the above noted, there are some 3.5* properties which i'd prefer over 4* properties, but with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you don't get to choose which specific property you will get, so 4* is usually a little safer bet, but not if it will dampen your budget to the extent you'll then need to watch every dollar and not be able to enjoy doing things while on your vacation. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Dyota Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 Thanks so much for the input. I guess I can live with increasing the budget to $130 for a 4* hotel. I think the areas that you recommend above sounds good, but after reading some of the posts in the forum, would rather exclude TS to make our stay a bit less noisy. Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 So to confirm, a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, CPS, and ESB zones up to a maximum bid of $130/nite.At the 4* level in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and ESB...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Dyota Posted January 4, 2013 Author Report Posted January 4, 2013 Hi,Thanks for the help. In the end, following the suggested strategy we got the Intercontinental The Barclay for $125.Thanks for all the help!
thereuare Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 Congratulations on your success! A nice deal for this 4* property. Glad to see you're pleased with the results and looking forward to your trip. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
