Priceline Hotel: 4* Las Vegas (Strip North) Treasure Island

Tuesday Feb 6th my family of 2 aduts and 2 children (8yr + 5yr) will be putting a half day in at Disneyland and then traveling half way home to Utah and stopping in Vegas for the night.

I thought it would be a fun way to conclude the trip to stay at a really nice 4 - 5* hotel.

We are easily impressed and not easily disappointed. I like the idea of being SURPRISED what hotel we might win so long as I feel we got a good deal.

A casino is not necessary. Family friendly a plus but not necessary as we are mostly just there to sleep.

Any suggestions on where to start my bidding for a property on the strip.

Question 1:

Where would you start bidding for 5*, I think Trump would be A-Ok for our needs. If other 5*'s are within $25-30 I'd prefer going for the others though.

Question 2:

Where should I start for 4* bidding on strip.

Although new to this forum I've been a member on FT and worked almost 2 decades in ~travel technology companies (that either own or use the likes of Hotwire & similar).

I'll give my opinion towards your questions and then if you so desire . . . I'll just opine on my experiences.

1. (split answer) - Either way - check out the 'Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins' feature on this site - it is GREAT !!!!

. 1a. Trump = stip-north-condo: You can usually bid and win the Trump for <$100, with current wins showing at $85. I would start my bid at $-zero- and if they don't give it to me for free then I would move along. Seriously though, $85 is good for the Trump, I wouldn't pay more than that and only think it is a 5* in Mr.TeeeRUMP's mind. errrr, not a big fan of the Trump, nothing really for the kids to see or do, you'll have to hit the pavement for the sights. Compared to in-room, window viewing options (read below)

. 1b. -still, on the calendar of wins!!!- Palazzo win of $130 (decent) and the Aria (strip-south) win of $102 (really good!). The Arai, Cosmo, Vdara in the strip-south vacinity are really great. (read below on cosmo).

2. 4* bidding - check out the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins...

There aren't any 4* wins for the date you mentioned however, the week after it shows a TI win of $55 (good).

For a similar cost, often mid-week you can get it <$100, easy and if you bid 4* (strip-north) you'll likely get either the Mirage or the TI.

With kids either are a decent property and with the volcano and pirate ship there are distractions to keep them entertained. 5* in the strip-north is good more for adults, not as much to see for kids your age.

My experience and preference, whether you bid-it and get lucky to land it, or book direct on a deal, is the Paris. With the kids age that seems to be a good hotel-room sightseeing opportunity. Booking a room and a check-in tip is often successful in getting a decent view which, dinner in front of the window looking at the Tower, and the Bellagio fountain show across the way is decent.

If you really want to go 5*, with kids, I would recommend strip-south. I don't bid 4* for strip-south, just too many options to get stuck somewhere I'd rather not stay. However, bid 5* (strip-south) all day long. You can't lose with any of those properties and, if you happen to land the Cos at a decent rate (<$150) then tip-nicely and request a complimentary fountain view in the east-tower, with the Paris well across the street gives you a super upgrade show of the fountain and the lights towards the north.

I can't speak personally for it, but the Las Vegas Summerlin zone has Resort level bidding. A couple hotels have been reported here as wins at that level. One of them, the J W Marriott, has a review on this site. It was very detailed and very positive. And of course you can check both of them out on www.tripadvisor.com. The other is the Red Rock.

If you like what you see, you can include that zone in your bidding.

Resorts are rated between 4* and 5*.

The Trump is pretty much in a zone by itself on Priceline as it is in the one denoted 5* Condo. You can easily include or exclude it, depending upon your choice. Of course it is always possible for another hotel to crop up in a zone, but it is low probability in this instance.

Assuming you aren't hitting any really high occupancy time (translation - high rate), I like your idea. Vegas hotels are an excellent value when rates are low, and it could provide a fun break on the drive back.

I like the win. Not overly thrilled with the TI because of MEH reviews but to be honest the $ savings will make it all worth it. I'm guessing we won't be in Vegas for very long as it is just a place to sleep between Disney and Utah.

My only stay on the strip that I can remember was the Mirage about 10 years ago. So I'm sure the TI will be enjoyable and impressive enough for the family.

The other mildly alarming thing is I won this BID on the first attempt without re-bid zones or anything. But to be honest I doubt I would have landed it for much less. B)
