luv2event
I am trying to bid on a 3*+ in san juan for March 10/11, 2012. So far no luck all the way up to $114, which makes it around $140 - which seems like a lot given what people have gotten for bids before. Do you have any advice that could be helpful? Thanks in advance! Link to comment
thereuare
Rates are date specific, so you won't always be able to replicate the same winning bid prices as another user when their dates are different then your own. There are certainly many instances when it take more than $115 to win a hotel in this area. What is the best rate you're able to find for a 3* or higher rated hotel in this area for your specific dates? (you can use our new site, Pre Cruise Hotels, which will make it easy to see which hotels are near the pier and how much more/less it would cost to stay closer/further away or higher/lower in star rating)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. luv2event
Thanks for the website! The cheapest one is $115, but most are $150 and up. Is there a time that is good for bidding that seems to get a better deal? Or should we wait until closer to the date? Link to comment
thereuare
There is no telling if rates will come down between now and your stay... or continue even higher. It all depends how actual reservations/cancellations come in relative to expectations. For a further discussion on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Checkin' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.The $115 hotel is not in PRICELINE's San Juan zone, so that wouldn't be an option for 3* bidding in this zone. The next cheapest hotel (i love how easy it is to filter by selecting 3* and then sort by clicking the PRICE link) is the Hotel Miramar at $149/nite. You should double check during the checkout process, but but this appears to be fully refundable up until a few days before your stay. If so you can book this to protect yourself from prices moving higher while you continue to try PRICELINE in the days ahead for something better and/or cheaper. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Your thoughts? luv2event
Sounded like a great idea, but when I clicked to reserve it, it was almost $200 with taxes and fees! Maybe I will choose one of the cheaper ones to protect myself with and then keep trying. The last time I stayed in SJ I paid 108 for a resort with PRICELINE, that is why I am so hesitant to spend almost double that! Thanks so much for the help - great site you have here. Link to comment
thereuare
Thanks for the compliments on the site!Any hotel with a casino has an extra tax associated with it (and the tax is over 10% if i recall correctly), so you should try to see if you can find a hotel that doesn't have a casino as that may help keep the cost of your back-up reservation more affordable.Keep us updated on your progress and/or what you ultimately decide to do for this trip OR if we can be of further help along the way. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.
