emsrob Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 HiWe are looking for a nice hotel in New York, preferably Midtown East or Empire State area, arriving 21st November, and checking out 25th November. Hoping for around a $100 a night, but not sure if that is in the right area. Looking at 4* mainly. Thanks for your help in advance.
AaronJB Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :) Unfortunately, this falls within one of the busiest periods of the year (this particular week is slightly less busy, but still high) in NYC. $100 per night is generally seen during the slowest period/s of the year (such as now.) $100 is unfortunately going to be unrealistic for this time period, but I'm rather surprised to see a 4* in MTE for $154 on HOTWIRE - you may be successful around the $120-135 neighborhood at the 4* level in MTE. Would you still be interested at the 4* level in MTE?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

emsrob Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. I thought $100 would be a bit low. 4* in MTE would be great. I should have mentioned we are based in the UK.
thereuare Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I thought $100 would be a bit low.Did you want to raise your maximum bid? Given you may need to be going higher than your originally expected budget, is there a reason you're only including MTE and ESB... at the 4* level TS, CPS and MTW typically also work well for the average user, are these zones not convenient for your needs this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. emsrob Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Let's put the maximum bid to $150 per night. Happy to include CSP and MTW, would prefer just to stay away from TS just to keep things a bit quieter. Could you recommend a strategy? Thanks
thereuare Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 At the 4* level in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and MTW and ESB...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW and ESB and CPS...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. emsrob Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Thank so much. Just got W New York for $138 per night on the dates we wanted. Under budget and very happy! Thanks again for your help.
AaronJB Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Very, very nice deal for what is traditionally a tough period of the year.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
revlis Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Can I ask why you would bid this way? Why is this better than starting with all the zones you'll accept, and using free rebids to climb up?
thereuare Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 With my knowledge of the area and these particular dates, the chances of winning a hotel in the CPS at less than $130/nite was very low, so by bidding as indicated it enabled more bidding opportunities, lower dollar increments at the end (when all zones were bid at the same time), and also still covered lower bids within the CPS zone should the rare possibility that a low rate was available there.Bidding strategy are tweaked based upon specific rates and dates, if you need help with an upcoming stay feel free to start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
