Bellingham Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I have been trying to get a successful bid on a 4* hotel in Jersey City for our summer vacation. I am trying to get the W, Weston, or Hyatt. I have bid 1 time per day for the last bunch of days. I am up to 150$ per night and have not been successful. Seems like I am reaching the upper limit of bids. I am looking for suggestions, maybe I have to bid higher, is there tactics that are better then bidding 1 time per day. Any help will be appreciated.ThanksWill
thereuare Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Using MAPS and HOTELS.com have you checked retail rates for these dates, as they are quite high. Rates may come down in the months ahead, but at current pricing, it's not surprising that bids up to $150 have been rejected.Given this is slow season in NYC have you considered staying in Manhattan? You may be able to get a 4* or 3.5* property for about, or not much more, thank you have already bid.If you wanted to stay on the Jersey side for some reason, do you have any thoughts about the Sheraton Suites in Weehawken? It's not as nice or convenient as the Hoboken/Jersey City hotels you mentioned, but it does have a bus stop in front of the door which can have you into Manhattan in 10 minutes (traffic permitting) and can likely be had within your budget.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Bellingham Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 I have not settled on Jersey versus Manhatten but my thinking is like this: there are three of us, my wife and our 10 year old son. We have no problem sharing a King bed but don't fit into a queen any longer! Knowing the limitations of Priceline, I have used it many times; I am hesitant on booking a hotel that may not be able to accomodate. So, in researching I found that in Jersey City 4* appear limited to 3 hotels all whom have at a minimum king beds, no 1 queen only rooms. So that is why I had settled on Jersey City 4*. Make sense? I maybe making assumptions that are not true, what do you think? I know I have plenty of time to watch pricing, just got the itch to get the plans made but want to find a good value. I'm not tied to a particular cost, more committed to getting a good value compared to rack rates. I do really appreciate the help. Will

thereuare Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Please keep all posts for this trip in one stay.Is the HOTWIRE rate above for 2adults/1chid or only for double occupancy? Are you willing to spend $200+ per nite for your non-Manhattan leg of this trip?Have you already booked a room for the Manhattan portion of your trip? (if so, where and how much, and did you book thru traditional booking channels or thru one of the opaque providers?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
