Loving Arizona! Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 After doing my homework on this site, I see that the Sheraton in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona is a 4*. I needed a hotel in Downtown Phoenix. I utilized the multiple bidding strategy of adding nearby areas when my initial bid was declined by adding cities where there are no 4* hotels. North Phoenix indicates there are NO 4* in this area. Unfortunately, when I added Phoenix North in addition to Downtown Phoenix, I was given the JW Marriott. I called Priceline's customer service and they claim they can't give me a refund. Nor do did they apologize for the error.Any advice to getting a refund other than dispute the charge with my credit card or writing the Senior Vice President of Customer Service & Operations? Thanks in advance.
Romelle Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 The hotel you got is a Resort. In the Phoenix North area there is bidding on Resorts. Resorts are ranked between 4* and 5*, so what you got was an "upgrade". Sorry. If you can do the driving or pop for the cab fare, it probably is a really nice place. Phoenix has some bus service too.Romelle

Loving Arizona! Posted January 25, 2012 Author Report Posted January 25, 2012 Please be aware that I wasn't trying to win this hotel and you may have luck with a lower price. I added this area only in a subsequent bid. I won the JW Marriott for $105 per night from February 27 - 29 in Phoenix North. I hope this may help someone.
thereuare Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 As per Romelle's post above, the issue is that you added a zone that was not technically a re-bid zones. The star rating you select when bidding on PRICELINE is the minimum that you're willing to accept, and PRICELINE will try to upgrade you to a higher rated hotel if available at your bid price. While there may not be any 4* hotels offered in the Phoenix North zone, there are Resort class properties, and your 4* bid was upgraded to the higher rated resort class property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Loving Arizona! Posted January 25, 2012 Author Report Posted January 25, 2012 Thanks Romelle and Thereuare for the explanation. I wouldn't have guessed that because resorts are not listed above 5 stars. I didn't even notice resorts highlighted in blue. Lesson learned. Does anyone know if I am able to sell this winning bid to someone else or does the arriving party have to show ID or my name on the credit card? Thanks again.
Loving Arizona! Posted January 25, 2012 Author Report Posted January 25, 2012 By way of update, I called the hotel and they were gracious enough to move my reservation a few weeks later. So my wife and I will celebrate our anniversary there and it isn't money lost. The JW Marriott was very kind and accommodating.
thereuare Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 All is well that ends well :) (and kudos to the Marriott for a solution that works well for everyone)If you'd like help bidding for a 'replacement' for this trip feel free to start a NEW TOPIC.
