biddingforhotel
Btw, this hotel is right at Princeton NJ, not Trenton, off Rt 1, across Market Fair Mall.I agree there are many Extended Stay along Rt 1 ... this is the one closest to Princeton University, and that's why we are here, we came to canoe at the Delaware Raritan Canel State Park and visit brand new Princeton Library ...etc Link to comment
dahammer
Did you bring your own or are there rentals available.....canoes, that is :) Link to comment
biddingforhotel
Rental $12 per hour can have 4 people in one canoe, extra hour cost extra $6 ... theoretically, you can canoe all the way from Princeton to Somerset along this Delaware Raritan Canal State Park as shown in the map We did not have much time, so only rent one hour, and half hour forward and then returned. Ideally, you may want to rent 2 hours so that you can go as far as Carnigie Lake before heading back. On the other hand, we were hiking on the canal path before conoe, then hike back to the car, so both hands and legs were tired ... so we headed on to this brand new Princeton Public Library to take a rest, you got 2 hour free parking at the parking deck behind, just have the parking ticket validated at library; there are hundred of high speed internet computer, nice cafe like Barnes & Noble and Border, and gift shop like museum ...etc.We then found out there was going to be Fireworks and NJSO Concert at Mercer County Park, 7 miles away, so after we left for nice late lunch at Subway Princeton, and visiting Princeton University bookstore, Graduate colleges ...etc before heading to Mercer County Park; the concert was great and the firework was fantastic!!!You know why we did not drive all the way to Allentown PA, Reading PA, Pittsburgh PA, Cleveland OH, Niagra Falls NY, Syracuse NY, Binhanton NY ...etc like last year? It was because the gas price went up, so we decided to just do local tours, and we found it was equally great and found lots of great things to do ... Link to comment
biddingforhotel
By the way, priceline line paid this hotel $35 ... Link to comment
thesqueegeekid
Don't forget to grab some :) Hoagie Heaven :) for the canoe trip!!! Link to comment
dahammer
I would luv to ice skate along a canal in the winter, not sure if the ice ever gets thick enough, though. Canoeing sounds like a blast and a great day trip. Thanks for the info!!PS...you gotta cross the Delaware River into Pennsylvania and go south to get a Hoagie.....folks in South Jersey still call them subs..... :) Link to comment
biddingforhotel
You may be able to skake in winter, but the problem is that there were so many bridges over the canal that even canoe under needs some skills, and be careful not to bumb your head!!! :) Link to comment
