Priceline Hotel: Need Bidding Help 4* NYC 3/12 - 3-16

Hi,

We are looking to stay in midtown NYC March 12-16. Looking for a low cost 4*. Don't want to be 15 minutes from subway, so MTE is unfavorable. Don't want downtown or SOHO. Open to MSG or ESB if a good deal.

We have a backup reservation at the Mansfield.$159 plus tax a night for a Parlour Queen. Trip Advisor makes it seem like a decent hotel for this price.

Bids in CPS, MTW, and TS up to 140 failed. Started at 105 and free re-bid up to 140. Might this get better, or I am being unrealistic? Would I potentially get something worse than the Mansfield?

Thanks

Of the 'known' hotels MTE is only an issue location-wise when bidding 3.5* and under... are you willing to add this zone to your 4* bidding? Also, is there a reason you're not including ESB in your bidding as this zone is usually considered to be well located as well.

Only reason for not adding other zones is a preference to be closer to central park. With CPS having been the only 4* zone i initially was looking at

Using the PRICELINE link provided, I've also had bad experiences for around that time. I am looking for a hotel for the night of 3/10 and also had failed bids. I went up to 105 for a 3.5 star around the MDE, MDW, CPS, MSG, and Time Square and got failure after failure. Now you tell me that I may not even get that for 140...not looking good :(

bigbird090,

Rates can, and do, vary greatly by date... so while $140 may or may ultimately be enough for your dates, i wouldn't use the OP's rejected bids as any indication of what it will take your own trip.

If you'd like help with your particular dates please start a NEW TOPIC.

I suggest to START now bidding for "real". I think that it was just too early and PL didn't have access to all hotel inventory. I was also bidding (unsuccessfully) for the last 4-5 days of January - no luck at all, even if I (foolishly) hit $159 when bidding. Luckily I've got no matching offer back then!!!

Today I wasn't expecting to win at all, but gave it a try. So, started at $110, nothing; then raised to $115 - was refused; $120 - got a counteroffer around $150. Then I knew there was some available hotel inventory and the price level was quite low. Refused the offer, added more zones and raised the price to $125 - was refused; continued adding zones and raised the price to $128 only - and, finally, booked the hotel!

So, the NY trip: early March dates (5 days) at a 4* Downtown hotel, for $128 per day. Not bad! I assume that if I've waited for a week or two, I might have gotten even a better price(around $115). But it's FIVE days, and I didn't want to risk ending up with no matching offer from PL (due to lack of room inventory for an extended stay). So I booked early!

My strategy was simple. I've selected 3 initial zones for $110, then added 2 more, then added 1 more (for the $120 bid). All these were my acceptable zones for a 4* hotel in Manhattan. Then I added some free re-bid zones (there are 7 in total) to slightly up the bids, ' cause I knew there was a hotel coming in my way.

I wish you luck and I hope will get a similar and even better deal! I just wanted to encourage you & tell you that things are warming up on PL for March dates.

Moderator - I've used Betterbidding PRICELINE link to place my today's bids. Thanks for a very informative site! I've learned a lot about bidding strategies just by reading the threads :-)))
