kathryniroz Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Can you please help identify the following hotel:2* Times Square- Theatre District area hotelAmenities: fitness center, business center, high-speed internet accessRecommended in 35% of customer reviewsThank you!
AaronJB Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please confirm the date/s of travel and we would be happy to try to ID. However, I will note that a 35% approval rating from HOTWIRE customers is definitely very concerning as to the quality of this mystery property.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kathryniroz Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 Ah, I knew I was forgetting something! The dates are March 7-11, 2012. There are only 2 hotels for those dates under Times Square. What is the second best area to stay? We are traveling with a baby and trying to avoid tons of walking. Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'm guessing this may be the Milford Plaza. In terms of nearby areas, Midtown Central and Midtown East are other fine options nearby; what would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I would think that you can do better than this 2* property. What is your maximum budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this trip and how old is your baby? Do you own an umbrella stroller? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kathryniroz Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 Thanks for your response! I'm trying to keep our hotel under $800 for the 4 nights, so about $175 max per night before taxes and fees. I've found the Hotel 41 on Priceline for $169 (for the larger room) that will actually accommodate a crib. I'm finding that to be the most challenging part of booking a hotel, so I'm considering just booking the listed price for the Hotel 41 with the larger room through PRICELINE. It seems to be a great location and although a 2.5 star, gets pretty good reviews. Do you know anything about that hotel? We do have a stroller, but not an umbrella. Our baby just turned one. I'd love to know your thoughts on the plan I'm contemplating :)
thereuare Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 As noted, i think you can do much better. It's NYC, so you should plan on walking a fair amount. Start scanning Craig's List, your location salvation army (or the equivalent), baby swaps, etc for a used umbrella stroller (or it looks like Target has some starting at ~$45... you can also pick one up in Manhattan at K-mart or some other similar store and then donate it before you leave if you don't want to take it home). While some subway stations have elevators, many do not, and those that do the elevators are often out of order. Having an umbrella stroller will give you a LOT more mobility around the city at street level, as well as allow you to use all subway stations with ease (i often carried my daughter while strapped into the stroller up/down subway stairs.. or for additional safety you can take your son/daughter out of the stroller as you fold it up to handle the stairs)If you use HOTWIRE, they classify children as age 2-17, so you would be within their terms if you search for 2adults/0children. Then once a hotel is won you can call the hotel to let them know you have a one year old and inquire as to what type of room is assigned and if they offer cribs, Pak n Play, etc. If there is an issue where you the hotel won't be able to accommodate your occupancy, then you can call HOTWIRE and explain that you didn't include your child since it said children 2-17 years old. This would be a slight risk, but if you're willing to accept this, then you could get a 4* hotel in MTE or the ESB zone for close to your maximum room rate of $175/nite... a 3*/3.5* for $120-$160/nite.Even if you're not willing to take the chance outlined above, you can still do better than your current reservation. Searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/1child there is a 3.5* in the Chelsea-MSG or the MTE zone for $175/nite... 3* hotels for $120-$155/nite. (NOTE: save $15/nite on your hotel room and it has more than paid for a $45 umbrella stroller ;) ).Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there, taking a guess as to the HOTWIRE hotels offered based upon whether you're interested in the 2adult/0children vs. 2adults/1chidlren options. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
