Hello,

Hoping someone could help. I tried last night for 2 rooms at Empire in NYC for 4/14-4/15, 1 night. It came back saying that there was no hotel in that area with that star rating. When I check the hotel listing, it does show Empire at 4* for Upper West Side...does anyone know if this has changed?

I was also hoping for some strategy assistance as well...want to get Empire as we stayed here last year for the same event in Central Park and it was so close and convenient..I also booked it last year through Priceline.

Thank you,

Shelley

It came back saying that there was no hotel in that area with that star rating.

If you re-read the message, did you actually say that there were no 4* hotels offered in this zone OR that they were not able to find a 4* hotel for you in this zone at the price you had bid?

I am able to select everything and after I bid that's the message that comes back after I submit my bid....I even tried to continue selecting different area that do not have 4* and I always get same message.

thank you

I copied this.....

We're sorry, there are no hotels available for the star and area combination that you selected in the New York City. Your credit card has not been charged for Priceline trip number ###-###-###-##.

To try your request again please add an additional area or star levels, or change your travel dates. If you only want to raise your offer price, you'll need to wait 24

Oh okay - it was a message after the bid.

Sorry to hear that there's no availability in the zone for these dates - it would appear that there's no discounted inventory for these dates in this zone at this star level. What other zones would be acceptable?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

[The last one I tried I think I started low around 95.00 and was up to 125.00 before I couldn't add anymore. We are only staying one night. I can do for 1 or 2 rooms, I figured with 2 maybe I stood a better shot. My friend needs a room too so I was just going to book it and have her give me the money. Is that the case or do I stand a better shot doing one room?

Thank you for all the help!

So to confirm you're only willing to accept CPS and UWS with a budget of $140, and have thus far only bid UWS up to a price of $125? If this is correct i'd proceed as follows (although based upon current rates i don't think $140 will be enough for a 4* in either of these zones at this price):

At the 4* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* CPS...

Bid $100, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140

Any questions feel free to ask.

Sorry, one more quick question. You said I have 7 re-bid zones and I am comparing Priceline's list of zone's to the hotel list on this site.

I am having trouble matching a few of them. I have the following for re-bid zones:

New York City (Upper East Side)

New York City (Queensborough Bridge)

New York City (Madison Square Garden - Convention)

New York City (Lower East Side)

New York City (Long Island City)

I see other NYC zone's without 4* but I cannot match their names to priceline...can anyone help? for example on priceline I see Coney Island, Brooklyn, and Morningside Heights-Harlem...but I do not see these on the list on this site.

Thank you again for all the assistance.

Don't use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones, and don't use the retail section of PRICELINE to determine your re-bid zones... only use the method described here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained

If you read the previous link and are confused just post back and we'll break it further down for you.

I have tried this a few times (using the link from this site) with no luck at 140.00. I have another option which is to stay at the Excelsior which is a 2.5 star in the UWS. My firned has stayed there the last three years and it is a decent hotel and within the area we would like to be in.

Any strategy suggestions for that?

Thank you so much!!

I have another option which is to stay at the Excelsior which is a 2.5 star in the UWS.

You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. Are you willing to accept any 2.5* rated hotel in the UWS zone?

Or did you have the option of booking the Excelsior direct? If so, what is the rate?

The Excelisor was the only 2.5 star on UWS that I saw? I know that I cannot bid directly on one particular hotel but thought since it was the only 2.5 star in that zone, I could try that zone.

On their site directly it is 280+ a night.

Thanks

See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List.

As well, the star rating you select is the minimum that you're willing to accept, and PRICELINE could always upgrade your 2.5* bid to a higher rated property.

If you try bidding for a 2.5* hotel in this zone, you may receive the Excelsior... or you could receive a different 2.5* property anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone.

Just to clarify, there is a difference between accurate and complete ;)

At the 2.5* level you only have one re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 2.5* UWS...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110

If the above is rejected, i'd re-try every 24 hours with the following bidding pairs:

$115/$120

$125/$130

$135/$140
