Hi, first time user here. Just want to say this forum and what you're contributing is fantastic.

My search result is yielded from hotwire using the link provided above as instructed.

I am interested in book one room for a romantic getaway in chicago river north area, and i found

4*, 65$, North Michigan Avenue - Water Tower - Gold Coast area hotel, time table: Feb 15 - 25

Amenities: Fitness Center , Restaurant(s) , Business Center , High-Speed Internet Access

Couple of questions:

1. what am i likely to get?

2. (redundant) is this a good deal?

3. I understand Feb is sorta a dead tourist season due to the weather in the windy city, so should i wait till early Feb to look for better deals or should i jump on this now?

4. I'd like to have a larger sizer bed, say queen rather than 2 beds in the room. Hotwire does not allow the bed selection at the time of booking, after talking to them, they said they can't guarantee either? Should I book as 1 guest to "guarantee" one bed? at 4 star hotel, I shouldn't get a double bed for the room should I?

Thanks much for your help. Again, this forum is so wonderful.

Welcome to BetterBidding! (and thanks for the compliments on the site)

If you haven't yet, please read your messages.

Unfortunately the amenities above are very common and the property above matches reports for multiple properties, with the Allerton Crowne Plaza, Millennium Knickerbocker, Sutton Place, The Avenue, The Drake, Westin Michigan Avenue, and Whitehall all having been seen with this amenity set, so any of these are among the likely candidates.

There is no telling if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your trip, but i will say that $65 probably already reflects 'low season' and i wouldn't expect to see prices too much lower than this. You may see prices a few dollars lower or higher due to the way HOTWIRE displays rates, but i wouldn't expect to see anything $20 cheaper. If you're looking for the lowest possible price then PRICELINE may be a better option, but you'll then have to accept any hotel in the zone that you bid at the minimum star rating you select, with none of the clues/comfort levels that HOTWIRE provides, such as previous user satisfaction figures, tripadvisor ratings (for some properties), etc.

Rooms type/configuration can be requested to the hotel after your purchase, and how accommodating hotels are to such requests is dependent upon a lot of factors, including hotel policy, occupancy, mood of clerk at time of check-in, etc. Even if you book for one person you could receive a room with two beds, if that is what works better for the hotel to accommodate their other guests who have committed room type reservations (and have paid 'retail' rates for the privilege of selecting a room type). Fortunately most hotels are willing to accommodate your request if available. I would think that given the time of year (and the low rate currently indicates low occupancy levels) the hotel should be able to meet your request, but the length of your stay could be an issue depending upon how the hotel's current reservations on the books fall. Worst case scenario if the hotel can't meet your request i would state that you'll be there for 10 days and would really like a room with a larger bed, and if it would be possible to change after the first nite and a currently occupied room becomes available. If you're flexible like this it usually works to your advantage, but no guarantees.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed or if you move forward with the above how it goes.

Thank you so much. I didn't mean for staying for 10 days -- that's the range i was looking at. I was just going to book for a day. I'll definitely let you guys know what I end up getting. Cheers.

Congrats on your success. :)

This is a property with a long history (it was once rumored to be an Al Capone hideout, and was the Playboy Club for a while) and went through a considerable renovation a couple of years ago. The way the hotel is located - as is the case with a lot of hotels in the densely-built city- doesn't have much in the way of views; you may get some partial lake views on higher floors facing North.

Can you confirm the date/s of travel and price per night (before taxes/fees) so that we can update the site's Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins? Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.
