dQuixote Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Started bid at $86 and used free re-bids at $5 increments up to $121......all rejected. Will try again in a day or two. Suggestions?
thereuare Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!I don't think you're too far off... perhaps $125-$145 should be enough for this stay, what is your maximum bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dQuixote Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 I'd like to be at $125 or lower. Any day(s) of the week typically better for bidding? Thanks for your help. (I always use your PRICELINE link for bids & the free re-bid strategy has been great.)
thereuare Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I'd go up to your maximum bid of $125 on the next round of bidding (of course starting lower at first). Not much room for margin given your previously rejected bids at $121 but hopefully you'll get lucky; if not we'll review your options from there. (if you need a more specific strategy just let us know)Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. dQuixote Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 Took shots at it again yesterday (up to $115) and today (up to $125). I used multiple free re-bids on all attempts and included FIN.DIST./EMBARCADERO. The paranoid side of me wonders if Priceline follows this board. (I also find it interesting that this and other posts have received 90-125 views in the last two days..... Come on folks, please post if you're using Priceline - we'll all benefit.)Anyway, I'm open to additional advice/strategy on this. Is there any credence to last-minute bidding success? Should I sit tight for a few days and go at it again on Sunday or Monday? Thank you! (Maybe I'll head for Monterey or Napa Valley instead.)
thereuare Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Rates are date specific, so the prices that somebody else is able to win at (for different dates) may be more/less than is required for your own dates. Currently rates for your dates are a bit higher than usual... and therefore would require a higher bid then when you've seen others win for less.Nobody can say if rates will come down in the next few days, or continue higher, but it comes down to how much you need a 4* hotel for this stay (or perhaps a 3.5* will do?) vs. your budget vs. a trip to this area vs. visiting someplace else. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dQuixote Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 I made multiple attempts on Friday and Saturday without any luck. Gave it a rest yesterday and tried again this morning. Finally got Mark Hopkins (USW/Nob Hill) at $131. More than I had hoped to pay, but - all things considered - not too bad. (Checked the convention calendar and found I was competing with a Mac conference - 1200+ rooms.)This is the roughest time I've ever had on Priceline....but it still beats retail. Thanks for your help.(Used your PRICELINE link.)
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Definitely a good deal for this Inter-Continental property during a busy period. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
