dj3330 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 First of all this seems like a great site. I just found it.I saw this great listed for a four star hotel for $82 listed in the Museum Campus - McCormick Place - Soldier Field area with the following amenities:Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access Seems like a good look but I'm not sure what hotel it could be.
thereuare Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding... we're glad you found us! :)If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. This property matches previous reports for both the Hilton Towers and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, so either of these would be my best guess for this one. However, i'll add that this is not a frequently purchased area as it's a bit South of the main area for the average visitor's needs (unless attending a conference), so i'd confirm that this zone works for your needs this trip should you decide to pursue this offer. If not, let us know more about the purpose of your trip and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 As noted above, there is a definite risk with this listing - while the possible Hilton Towers is a little far South in the South Loop, it's okay/workable; the Hyatt McCormick is considerably further South of the Loop and requires transit (cab, train, etc) to get to core area of downtown - it's not really walkable (especially in the middle of Winter.) If you are going to a convention, this is an excellent choice - otherwise, I wouldn't recommend risking it. If you are visiting for tourism and plan to be out late/r at night, this would definitely not be recommended.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dj3330 Posted January 16, 2012 Author Report Posted January 16, 2012 thanks for the info. i did notice that it was further south. its my wife birthday so we would preferably like to be in the central part of downtown if possible. i will research the two hotels you mentioned above and also research a 4.5 star "Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville area hotel" which priced seems to have dropped from yesterdays search I did.
AaronJB Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 If you are primarily coming for tourism, then I would definitely not recommend the Museum Campus-McCormick zone. In terms of HOTWIRE and Chicago, the core zones:Loop: Closer to museums, some shopping, but less activity at night (particularly in the West Loop and South Loop)Mag Mile/Streeterville: The lower half of the North Michigan Ave area, which also includes the River North area, which has quite a bit in the way of nightlife and restaurants. Centrally located area.NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast: Top half of the Michigan Ave shopping area, and also includes the Gold Coast area, which has a number of restaurant/nightlife options. Additionally, not a terrible walk from the Old Town/Lincoln Park areas, which are to the North. The downtown area is not giant and much of it is pretty walkable, but parts of the Loop can seem out of the way and/or very quiet at night. There is quite a bit of public transit. Please let us know the details of the 4.5* listing if you would like assistance, or please let us know if you have any other questions at all.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dj3330 Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 thanks for the info. here is the listing for the 4.5 star hotel that is listed:4.5-star Hotel in Magnificent Mile Area - StreetervilleThis Hotel features the following amenities:Smoke Free RoomsGuest rooms at this hotel are always smoke-free.Fitness CenterGuests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply.Restaurant(s)Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary.Business CenterGuests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply.High-Speed Internet AccessGuestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. thanks in advance
thereuare Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 This 4.5* matches both the Conrad Hilton and the InterContinental so either of these would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dj3330 Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 I booked last night...it turned out to be the Intercontinental. Thanks for the help! I also booked using your HOTWIRE link provided.I really hope this is a nice hotel, as I have seen some less than desirable reviews from other hotel sites. At any rate, thanks for the help provided and I will be using this site every time I travel.
AaronJB Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)This is a very well-located and rather unique property that mixes historic with modern. Rooms do vary and people definitely may have different experiences, but I liked this hotel and it is a neat property - it has one of the first pools on a higher floor (the pool was built in 1929 and the pool area is really beautiful.) Can you confirm the price paid (before taxes/fees) per night so that we can update the site's Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins? Thanks.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
dj3330 Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 price is confirmed at $273.00 before taxes for three nights (1/19-1/22)unfortunately, the pool has been closed since October and is tentatively scheduled to open at the end of February. Thanks again though for all your assistance.
thereuare Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Thanks for the follow-up. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Bummer to hear that the famed pool is closed! Still, a very nice deal for this property and definitely a great/central location, which is a plus in Chicago during the Winter.
