Hi everyone,

I bid on and got Vancouver Hyatt Regency (4 stars, Jan 19-Jan 24) on Priceline but with the wrong month by accident (I chose Jan 19-24, but I meant to choose July 19-24) for $94/night.

I told Priceline about this right away, and they said that as long as I rebook using the correct month, I can get a refund (minus the fee for first night). The agent who told me I could get a refund NEVER mentioned anything about me choosing the same star levels in order to be eligible for a refund.

I am now trying to rebook hotels for July 19-24, but I see that it is a lot more expensive and even at $105, I cannot find a 4 star hotel. I called them back again today to ask if it is possible for me to rebook using a lower star level due to my budget. They said that I CANNOT get a refund unless I also choose 4 star! I think it is unfair that I am being forced to bid so much higher than my original bidding price now (i.e. higher than $105 even though I originally bidded $94). I think Priceline should have stated this star restriction somewhere! This is unfair because 1. the email I received from Priceline did not state this restriction explicitly and 2. the agent who told me about refund at the very beginning did NOT mention anything about star level.

I will paste the email that Priceline sent me (for my refund) below for your reference. It says that I have to change my booking dates, but nowhere does it say that I HAVE to stay within the same star level.

Can someone please give me advice? I really appreciate it. Thanks so much!!!

The email Priceline sent me:

Dear priceline Customer,

We understand you inadvertently selected the wrong date(s) when submitting your recent Hotel request. We cancelled your current Hotel reservation minus a cancellation fee of $111.19, and issued a refund in the amount of $444.76. The refund will be processed back to your account within 10 business days.

1. Please submit a new Hotel request with the correct date(s) on our website at http://www.priceline.com. You can either name your own price, or choose an itinerary where the price and the hotel's name are already displayed prior to purchase.

2. If your new request is accepted, please fill out the Service Request Form located at http://www.priceline...esubmit+Request and we will respond to you via email within 24 hours. Once we confirm your new accepted request meets the requirements, we will refund the entire amount of your cancellation fee minus the change fee (if applicable). If the guidelines are not met, your cancellation fee cannot be refunded.

3. Please remember that you must change either your check in and/or your check out date to be eligible to receive a refund of your cancellation fee minus the change fee. You can raise your offer price on your first request to increase your chances of receiving an accepted request. However, if your first new request is not accepted, you may continue to resubmit as many times as you would like (following the above criteria) until you get an accepted request.

Refund of the cancellation fees are typically processed within 48 hours of receipt of the Service Request Form. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation from us within this time frame, please contact us so we can research this further for you.

We are very happy that we are able to offer this cancellation to you; however, under normal circumstances, reservations cannot be changed or cancelled.

Thank you for choosing priceline for your travel needs.

Sincerely,

The priceline.com Customer Service
