Just new to this and have been searching to no avail. Looking for a hotel around the $100 mark, areas in order of preference are as follows:

- Soho/Tribeca

- East Village/Lower East Side

- Chelsea

- Hells Kitchen

- Theatre District

- Midtown West

- Midtown East

- Empire State Building

Been trying to bid but found the incremental budget increases with adapting stars really confusing!

Dates will be 31 Mar - 4 April

Would prefer 3 star upwards. Less concerned about room size and largescale hotel facilities, more concerned with proximity to subway and hotel being neat and clean.

Looking for a hotel around the $100 mark, areas in order of preference are as follows...

While i think that $100 for a 3* hotel may not be enough for these dates, are you willing to pay more to stay in your first choice of zone, or is budget the ultimate priority and the least expensive 3* or better in any of these zones is the objective?

Been trying to bid but found the incremental budget increases with adapting stars really confusing!

Try this:

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City' and your dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

Thanks for the reply :)

I'd say budget is probably number one priority as I am flying enroute from Australia to Barbados and need to stop in New York due to flight routings. We'd like to stay in Manhattan to make the most of the time we have and also use it to recover from jetlag, before we head onwards. Under normal circumstances I'd even be willing to stay in 2 or 2.5 star but after 35 hours of flying I don't think I'll be in the mood this time ;)

Any guidance towards the amount to bid at this time would be great - I haven't seen much in the way of winning bids as yet so I will keep my eye out for these.

The zones you've listed above are not identical to the zone names PRICELINE's uses in the 'Name Your Own Price' section of their website... are you using the bidding section of the PRICELINE website to review the zones? (use the search box on the top right corner of the board to be taken to the bidding section of their site and see the 'official' names of the PRICELINE zones)

Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

OK, based upon the areas used on the bidding section of the priceline website the zones are as follows:

- Soho - Tribeca

- Lower East Side

- Chelsea Area

- Hells Kitchen

- Times Square - Theatre District

- Midtown West

- Midtown East

- Empire State Building Area

Would really appreciate any help in terms of bidding strategy and guidance as to value of prices to bid in April. Cheers :)

Hello! I have been busy the last few days bidding on PRICELINE and wanted to let you know my experience.

I used the bidding strategy above and was prepared to go higher given it was a peak time and bid up to $175 with no success.

I decided to stop bidding at that point and instead booked the 4* Night Hotel , Times Square for $141AU per night inc Taxes.

I did however have a separate success in Grand Cayman and used the Please use the PRICELINE link so I shall share that in that forum.

Thanks for all your assistance and advice :)
