natedogg1856 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Started Bidding at $61 - and went through $66, $71, $76, $81, $83, $86, and finally $89 ($108.34 w/ tax). Ended up with the Sheraton. Hotel is going for $152+tax @ Kayak and others...was hoping to get a bit closer to downtown SD (gaslamp), but this will have to do. I'll report back and let you know how it went.I used the PRICELINE links here on the board to book it ;)
thereuare Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Congratulations on your success! While not your ideal location for this trip, glad to see you're pleased with the deal you received. When bidding this zone in the future note that HOTWIRE divides the region slightly differently, and enables you to focus on this northern area or more 'downtown' by the Gaslamp Quarter.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
natedogg1856 Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 Just wanted to write a quick review about the hotel:Property was very nice, and the room was very nice. I was pretty impressed. The hotel has an awesome pool, and although I didn't go in I saw lots people swimming in the pool so I'm assuming that it was a heated pool. The hotel does have a full sized Starbucks in the lobby which is super convenient. We did have a hard time with the TV though. With it being NFL Playoff Weekend, I wanted to watch the end of the SF/New Orleans game and the TV wouldn't work. For some reason the lower channels 2-30 wouldn't come in. However, we could watch any of the higher channels 31 - on (MTV, E, A&E, etc.). We were going out to dinner for the evening so I didn't make a big deal about it or call the front desk until the following morning. They sent someone up as we were leaving to check out. So I'm sure they will have it fixed for the next person. Also, I called the hotel to confirm the reservation the morning that we were to arrive. They confirmed the room with 2 queen sized beds, although it was going to be just my girlfriend and I. I asked if we could be switched to a king and they said they notated it, in the computer. We checked in at 4:30 and had to ask the check in agent again if we could get a King instead of the 2 queens and they let us upgrade. Just FYI.We tried the $20 Tip Trick to get an upgraded room, but the front desk agent only offered us an upgrade to a higher floor for $40. I said never mind, we would just take the 5th floor.$22/night for parking is a bit much, especially because the location isn't in gaslamp. The location isn't the best if you are planning on hanging out in gaslamp because you can't really walk to gaslamp, you will have to either cab it or drive and pay parking downtown.Overall, I was pretty happy. it was a clean nice room. Comfy large bed. We had a great time. Would recommend this to others in the future!Hope this helps!
AaronJB Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Thank you for the follow-up review! Glad to hear that this was a mostly very good stay.
