Medicmom Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 I started my search for 2 hotel rooms in San Juan for Feb 25/26 2012, and stumbled on Hotwire and priceline.... neither of which I have ever used. I am hoping not to have to kick myself very soundly..... I found what appeared to be a great hotel in Old San Juan (within 0-5.6mi of 00901 which is the cruise terminal) a 4* for $126. Some of the amenities were pool(s), casino, restaurant and added resort fee. I chose (this is where I may kick myself) to talk to my other travel companions, and went back to book it was gone! Now there are only 2.5*s available in the area. Could this change???? Or is this all they have left now for my dates???Second-- I have heard (through reading your posts) that I may only get 1 Queen bed. This is fine for hubby and I, but our mothers are also traveling with us, and would not like to share a bed at all! At hotels in San Juan is it likely they could get 2 beds? Thanks so much for any and all help.
Medicmom Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 Looking at a 4* in San Juan it is up for 114$. It says reg rate is $239. It says it is 0-6.6mi from 00901 (postal code of pier), Amenities-- Casino, smoke-free, fitness center, pool(s), restaurant(s), Business center, Hi speed internet, Golf near, spa services. First timer here, but after reading all your posts I think it may be The Sheraton? I am so worried about actually booking knowing I can't change, and worried that my Mother in law and Mother may freak out if they have to share a room!!! It says btw that there have been 30 bookings in the last 24hrs.PS it says there is a resort fee
Medicmom Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 The second hotel is a 3.5* and again 0-6.6mi from 00901. It states it has a Casino, fitness center, pool, restaurant , business center, hi speed internet, tennis nearby. Is this the Old Sheraton?
Medicmom Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 Really excited to get this hotel!!The amenities listed wereCasino, pool(s), Restaurants, Hispeed Internet, smoke free, golf nearby, fitness center, Business center, spa services. The rate on their website is $215. And I "won" it for $114!!
Romelle Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 You don't mention your date(s)? That helps in the identification.I'll leave the identification part to the pros. Never 100% sure, but definitely a well-educated guess. Did you do your match-up using the Hotwire list of reporting hotels and amenities? The hotels do change them from time to time, just to keep everybody guessing. But I know the Old Sheraton has a casino and charges a resort fee. It also is just across the street from the pier, and next to a ColdStone Creamery. Great fun to watch those big cruise ships come and go, while sitting outside eating ice cream! The Sheraton pool is very nice, and when we were there it seemed almost nobody else used it. Taxi rates from the airport to the hotels is on a fixed rate basis, and is posted. That is sort of comforting.RomellePS - Oops, I just saw your post where you actually got it. Glad it worked and you are happy with it.
Medicmom Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 The 4* was The Sheraton PR and Casino!! Really excited about that!!! Got it for $114 for the night, have seen it as low as $215 on other sites for the same night!!I booked through using this HOTWIRE link, and is has posted to Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Thanks so much!!
thereuare Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you received a nice deal for this stay and are happy with the outcome. You can call the hotel now and request at least one room with two beds. (no guarantees, but you can at least ask that they make a notation on your reservation)If you know other cruisers, you/they may also be interested in one of our latest sites, Pre Cruise Hotels, which shows you the hotels near the pier as well as makes it very easy to see how more/less it would cost to stay closer/further away OR if you were to go up/down in star rating.Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase. Medicmom Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 We booked two rooms. The only issue is when we booked 2 rooms with 2 adults, I messed up and put 2rooms 2 adults (meaning 2 adults per room), however hotwire took it to mean 2 adults, 1 in each room. YIKES. So I called Hotwire, and they were great offered to refund my hotel, and re-book for me. I asked if I could talk to the Sheraton first, as they couldn't guarantee the same hotel. The Sheraton was great, and said up to 2 adults are allowed to stay in the room anyway, so it was no problem. Thank goodness.Does anyone know if Hotwire adds new hotel bookings for dates..... or if they are gone they are gone? I want to book at least a 3.5* for Feb 25/26. I SHOULD've booked yesterday, but was so new to the concept, I waited. And now the only hotels left on hotwire for that date in downtown are 2*s. What are the chances they will have more 4*s available again before we leave?

You may have booked up the ones available in Hotwire inventory just now. I'd just check every couple days until another offering with the same amenities pops up.Romelle

You were right!! They have another 4* in their inventory. I believe it is the Sheraton again. Same descriptors as I saw when I booked our other night in San Juan. Although I would love to stay there another night, I also would like to try something different so I am a little torn right now. Do I wait and hope something different comes available in the next month, or do I book because I have a known availability now????The only strange thing is that it says "we are still gathering reviews for this location" where as when I booked the Sheraton previously it said 90% Hotwire recommends. Could this be a new hotel??? With exactly the same list as The Sheraton PR? (Amenities-- Casino, smoke free, fitness center, Hispeed, restaurant, pool, golf, business center, spa services. 4*, 0-6mi from 00901, Feb 25/26, $133 (ad rate $279)... I think it is the Sheraton, but maybe something new if it has no reviews???)
Romelle Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 You do know there are two Sheratons in San Juan? The one with "Old" in its name goes as a 3 1/2*, and the other goes as a 4*. I'm not going to hazard a guess on whether or not that lack of reviews in the current Hotwire offering could mean a different hotel. ?? There have been 5 different 4*s, 4 different 3 1/2*, and 5 different 3*s reported here. As someone who asks TCBY for some of both swirls so I can have 4 different flavors, I understand your desire to try for a different hotel for variety. If I were booking San Juan, I'd study those lists of amenities in the first post in this area. Also, I'd think about whether I want to take a whirl at one of the other star levels. Then I'd wait a bit until something showed up on Hotwire with a little different amenity list. Romelle
Medicmom Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 I think I will keep watching. I don't mind a 3.5* either (and if I get the Old Sheraton even better!!). If it was just hubby and I traveling together even a 2-3 star would be fine. But since we are bringing my mother in law and step mother inlaw, I think a 3.5* and up would be nicer for them (especially since my MIL has never traveled before!).I read many, many posts about all the different amenities that point to a certain hotel. The one currently on Hotwire appears to be the Sheraton PR (no the Old), the only question mark is that it says there are currently no ratings from hotwire guests on this particular hotel.... and when I booked the one for March yesterday it was the Sheraton PR, and it had a 90% guest rating. Maybe they are just updating??Thanks all who have read and replied to my posts!! You made my decision to book on Hotwire (yes I use the link to both search and book!!) a whole lot less stressful. I am very happy so far with my reservation, and looking forward to booking my pre-cruise hotel as well on Hotwire!!PS-- Romelle, right now on Hotwire there are only 3 choices in the area I want, a 2*, a 1.5* and a 4*. I think I will take your advice and wait a bit to see if the 3.5* appears soon :)
thereuare Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 As this thread reflects your post-cruise stay for 3/4-3/5, can you please start a NEW TOPIC for your pre-cruise stay... this will make it easier to keep each trip separate, as well as reflect the details of each in their own topic title, which in turn will allow each to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.THANKS!
