honey Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 I am not familiar with priceline and bidding but have checked lots of hotels on my own and can't find anything much less then 350 a night in December. Would like to go December 14th and need 4 nights. Any great ideas would be much appreciated.
thereuare Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!I assume NYC? How many people traveling? Do you have a maximum that you're willing to pay (it is one of the most expensive times of year in NYC)You may also want to begin by giving this thread a read:I'VE NEVER USED PRICELINE or HOTWIRE Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
honey Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 Hi and thanks for the reply. It will be a room for 2 and would like 4.5 star and would go up to 175.00. Is that possible or am I dreaming?
thereuare Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Normally i would say 'plenty of time', but this is one of the busiest times of year in NYC. Something may become available, but very close to check-in date i'm almost certain nothing will be available.I would book one of the following as a back-up (bothare fully refundable) and then try to do better thru the opaque services:Beekman Tower $201/nite for a 1BR suite (reviews)Affinia Dumont Studio suite for $208/nite (reviews)Let us know if either of the above work for you and then if you'd like to try to do better via Priceline. honey Posted June 28, 2005 Author Report Posted June 28, 2005 I did do a hotwire search and for 279.00 a night in times square theatre district. Amenities listed are restaurant...fitness, high speed internet and business center. What do you think about this?
thenewbie Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 $279 is a bit high for a 3.5* propertyI would book one of the following as a back-up (bothare fully refundable) and then try to do better thru the opaque services:Beekman Tower $201/nite for a 1BR suite (reviews)Affinia Dumont Studio suite for $208/nite (reviews)Let us know if either of the above work for you and then if you'd like to try to do better via Priceline.
thereuare Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 I don't know the id of the above property, but...I think the point is why spend 50% more for a non-refundable reservation when there are equivalent hotels (if not better, have you read the reviews?) for much less... plus the better and less expensive hotels have an 'out' if something better comes along. One thing i do know is that you won't likely be finding $200 hotel rooms of this calibur close to check-in.
