steveberg Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 I am going to vegas in March 12-16. I want to stay in either a 4 star or 5 star hotel and will spend up to 105 a night for a 5 star if i can get that or 85 a night for 4 star. I would stay at any hotel on the strip thats at least 4 starts except the tropicana because that is a 3 star hotel in my opinion. Is there any way to avoid the tropicana? I realize I could just bid on the north strip but most of the hotel seem to be in their south strip zone. Any advice would be much appreciated.
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)There is no way to avoid (or, on the flip side, increase the odds of) a particular property when using PRICELINE. HOTWIRE is a better choice, as it's possible to make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing on that service (not guaranteed though, and the hotel showing in the 4* South spot for your dates may be the Tropicana.)The Tropicana did just go through a significant renovation and reviews appear to have improved. Are you seeing any listings of interest on HOTWIRE - is there a 4* South showing within your desired budget? If so, please provide the amenities/star rating/zone of the listing.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
steveberg Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 To be honest I am not that familiar with hotwire and do not want to gamble on that sincee I dont know what im doing. Ive used priceline many times so im very familiar with the system there. I was thinking that the retail price for the tropicana is 74 per night on priceline. So what if I bid 75 or 80? Is it still possible that I will get the tropicana even though that is more than the retail price? I really dont want to rule out the south strip because the mandalay would be my desired hotel for a 4 star I love that place.
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 There is definitely the chance that you can overbid and still get the Tropicana. Please let us know if you would like assistance with HOTWIRE, which is in some ways more comfortable than PRICELINE, given that it does offer some information up front/is less opaque than PRICELINE.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
steveberg Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 Ok so i went to hotwire and there is a 5 star hotel for 102 per night but it doesnt list casino as a feature so im going to go out on a limb here and assume its the trump which I can get for cheaper on priceline. Also there is only one 4 star option and it is on the south strip but since i am newbie to hotwire I do not understand how i can see what hotel this would be. Also if numerous hotels accept my bud how does priceline decide which one you get? Lets say I bid 90 and Mandalay tropicana and treasure island are all willing to accept that price which would I get? Thanks for the all the help it is much appreciated. I'm so glad I found this site its awesome.
steveberg Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 If i want a 5* hotel but do not want the trump, there are 10 rebid zones. Is this correct? Summerlin is not a rebid zone because there is a resort in that zone.
nonie Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 If you only want 5* hotel ,not resort, then I think Summerlin is a safe rebid zone since it doesn't have 5*.
thereuare Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 We're glad you found us too! :)Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. For help with the HOTWIRE properties please include the full list of amenities associated with each property. On PRICELINE 5* is a higher rating then 'Resort', so if resort is the highest rated property in the Summerlin zone, then it is safe to add as a re-bid zone when bidding 5* (but NOT when bidding 4*, since 'Resort' is higher rated then 4* in the PRICELINE hierarchy)It's believed that if your bid is high enough for two hotels to accept, you will be assigned the one that has the highest price less than or equal to your bid price. So using your $90 example, if the 'right' price at one property is $86 and the 'right' price at another property is $89, you'll be awarded the $89 property since that is the highest price what is less than or equal to your bid price. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. steveberg Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks! Very clear answers to my questions much appreciated. Will start the bidding tonight if I win anything i will post.
steveberg Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 Is $125 a decent price for venetian? I feel like i overpaid a little.
thereuare Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Congratulations on your success! This would seem to be a very good rate for a 5* hotel on the strip and a nice discount vs. a conventionally booked room for these nites.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. steveberg Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 I couldn't afford all four nights at this rate though so i only booked 3 at the venetian. The other night I bid 52 on a 4 star and of course got the Tropicana just like I figured i would. I hope its not to bad.
thereuare Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Can you please add a reply to this thread confirming for which dates you won the Venetian so we can edit the topic title accordingly and have this thread appear for the correct dates in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Also, please post a NEW TOPIC for the Tropicana win so that others will be aware of that win when searching the topic titles on the board, and it too can appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.Thanks.
