So I am hoping to be able to score either the Westin, Hyatt, or Sheraton Resort in Kaanapali for the dates 2/15-2/20 for $200 or less/night. My first bid approach was as follows:

2/15-2/20

Kaanapali resort 180

Kehei rebid zone 190

Kahalui rebid zone 200

All offers were rejected so I proceeded to Hotwire for an individual night search to determine the availability of each night. It looks like there is not a resort available only on 2/20 but the Westin and Sheraton appear open the other nights.

My main question is should I wait it out and continue bidding in a similar fashion every couple of days because my stay is over a month away or would you suggest I split my bid up and bid on the first 4 nights which appear to have vacancies? Ideally I would like to stay at the same resort the entire trip for convenience and would be willing to pay more but I am completely novice to this process so all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Is this "President's Week" for many public schools as i'm seeing very low availability, and what is available is very expensive. What is the best rate you're able to find at a Resort class hotel for these dates?

Thanks for the response and any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think it is president's week based on a quick google search (feb 20th this year) but not sure if it has to do with Valentine's Day? It just works out with our work schedules so that's why I picked that time period.

The best resort rate I find on Expedia is $349/night and on Hotwire I believe the 4* hotel that is offered from 2/15-2/19 (one day short of my entire stay) for $233 is the Sheraton Resort based on location/amenities.

Splitting is an option for me although ideally I would like to stay in the same hotel and I realize this cannot be guaranteed with a split.

It appears the limited availability on the last night is probably the issue (I'm guessing here based on hotwire and Expedia results), so splitting the bid to the first 4 nights and then the last night would be my approach. Is this how you would suggest splitting?

thanks again.

When bidding Resort in this area you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select Resort Kaanapali...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select Resort Kaanapali and re-bid zone2...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $170

I would try the above for the following date ranges:

2/15-2/20 (doesn't hurt to try again)

2/15-2/19 (this is the one you're really hoping for)

2/16-2/20 (very low probability of success but no harm in trying)

Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected we'll revise to try again in 24 hours.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help and the directions.

Unfortunately none of the bids were accepted. I bid similar to your suggestions and even a bit higher ($180 max bid for 2/15-2/20 and for 2/15-2/19, and $200 max bid for 2/16-2/20).

My thought is to take a similar approach tomorrow but increasing my final max bid to $200 even for 2/15-2/19, which I think will be my best chance for success.

Any suggestion and help is much appreciated as always...

With a month to go my next move would be:

Select Resort Kaanapali...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select Resort Kaanapali and re-bid zone2...

Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $190

Once again using the following dates:

2/15-2/20

2/15-2/19

2/16-2/20

Been trying the approach suggested and unfortunately have not had success even raising my max bid to $230. Should I continue increasing slightly everyday or should I hold steady for a couple weeks with similar bids and hope something opens up?

Thanks for all of the help.

unfortunately i wasn't the one to personally bid, so i'm not exactly aware of what they were doing, but my brother won Hyatt during late june/early june for $250 a night

this was a lot more than what i thought the winning bid would be, but considering you've had no luck up to $230, maybe it wasn't just the way they were bidding.

Just wanted to check back in. Unfortunately I have not yet been successful and my current bidding is up to $280/night. Starting to freak out a bit but hope something falls through in the next 2 weeks.

Just wanted to follow up with my experience now after getting back from Maui. Ended up staying at Travaasa Hana Resort for 4 nights booking conventionally, but last night used Priceline for Resort anywhere because staying in Hana the last night is just too far from the airport. Landed Marriott Resort in Wailea for $300 which I was happy with based on limited availability everywhere trying to book through other sites. Unfortunately the Marriott bumped us when we checked in to the Makena Golf and Beach Resort. They said they were overbooked and this was a frequent occurrence for them. It was a bummer because the hotel was further from the airport and also not as nice so I would caution others when considering resorts in Wailea.
