I've been pricelining and received a 4 star counter for 71 bucks, which is higher then I thought I'd have to spend so I wanted to check out Hotwire. The prices generally seem higher then I expected for dead of winter.

thereuare Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 The 4.5* matches both the Hilton Conrad and the InterContinental, so either of these would be my best guess for this one (i'd slightly favor this one being the InterContinental vs. the Conrad Hilton, but you should at least be prepared for either)The 4* is consistent with the Hard Rock, Hyatt, Sheraton and Westin River North... so any of these would be among the likely outcomes. HOWEVER, i'm not currently seeing this property when searching HOTWIRE for your dates, as the 4* hotel i'm seeing in this zone includes a Boutique amenity... does the offer you're currently seeing show Boutique as well? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. StephanieY Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 I can't find the 4* rating anymore either. In looking at reviews the Conrad looks to be better reviewed then Intercontinental. The Intercontinental appears to be an older property? Can you comment on this 3.5*Mag Mile - StreetervilleFitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access$68I'm thinking it's the Doubletree?
thereuare Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 The Doubletree would be my best guess for this one as well. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. StephanieY Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Ok thanks for the confirmation. I just wonder why the Doubletree is *so* much cheaper then any neighboring hotels at the same or lower star level. All of the sites have rates for this hotel under $90. I was wondering if AaronJB can comment on the quality of this Doubletree - is there a reason why it's so cheap for a 3.5 star? Most of the tripadvisor reviews focus on the nickel and diming I've come to expect when I visit the city. I've been in the Markethouse Restaurant inside the hotel (thanks to Restaurant.com cheap deal) and it looked to be updated so I'm hoping the hotel itself isn't dated.I'll update the thread tomorrow. I want to try PRICELINE one more time (used up my bids today) to see if I can pay a few bucks more and get a 4 star, but I'd be happy with the Doubletree.

AaronJB Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 The Doubletree was at one point a nicer Holiday Inn, then revamped and rebranded a couple of years ago and is pretty much on-par with the Doubletree brand. I don't think it's a standout hotel, but it's a nicer property in a great location and some rooms may have a pretty decent view of the surrounding area (I think lakeview is an upgrade, though.) I think it's an instance where if you are going to be out a lot and just want a nice place to sleep, it is both a really reasonable price and a great location. The Intercontinental is - I think - a really neat property that, while technically older, does have a modern feeling in a number of regards. On the flip side, the hotel has one of the more remarkable pools I've ever seen - it was built in the late '20's and was one of the first pools built on a higher floor. The ballroom is also stunning and has the largest Baccarat crystal chandelier in the US. Again though, it's not new as much as old-meets-some new and I can see where it wouldn't be everyone's cup-of-tea (it's also a pretty huge property, and I believe there's also variation in the rooms.)The only concern with bidding 3.5* is the possibility of the Allerton, or possibly being upgraded to the 4* Whitehall. This is generally a slow/very slow (unless there's a convention) period of the year, and rates are at the low end - it's not unusual to see 3/3.5*'s in the $50's/$60's in the January time period.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
