TOTravelGitl Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Hi there,I am new to this forum and so far have found quite a bit of information. We are going to Manhattan in April and are meeting my sister in law and her husband from England. so there are 4 of us in total and we need two rooms. We would like them around Times Square if possible, so that is our number 1 choice, but I am okay with Midtown East, West or Central Park south as well. I did try from $120 to $150 and all got rejected, adding locations as I tried. Here are our details:Dates: April 18 to April 23Locations: Times Square, MTE, MTW, CPSStar Rating: 4*Rooms: 2 Adults: 4Kids: 0Any advice on what price I should be looking at or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)This time period does fall within the early Spring time frame, so rates are moderately higher than the slowest time period of the year (Jan-early Mar.) What would be your desired max bid per night? Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
TOTravelGitl Posted January 7, 2012 Author Report Posted January 7, 2012 I would think about $170 before taxes. We have currently reserved through a work discount that I get, the Barclay for $270ish a night including taxes which is for a King Deluxe, so given that we don't have to prepay and there's no risk, it's not worth going too much higher.Your thoughts would be appreciated.
thereuare Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. For this time of year the difference between $150 vs. $170 may be the difference between success and failure, although if successful it would be on the low end of the range that i would expect it to take... right now i'm guessing up the $185 area would increase your chances even more so. The following goes as high as $190, but you're of course free to stop at any amount you'd like, it comes down to how soon you want to get this settled (vs. the risk that price go up higher from here):At the 4* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones. TOTravelGitl Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 Thank you very much. Just one quick question - by "low end of the range" do you think it still makes sense for me to bid or stick with what I have with my original pricing at the Barclay? Your thoughts are appreciated.
AaronJB Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I think it's worth starting low and trying to bid up to a reasonable ceiling (if not $190, then $170) for the time being and increase over time if unsuccessful. It also depends on what level of discount would be desirable to take the risk (although the risk at the 4* level in terms of quality is certainly less than lower star levels.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
TOTravelGitl Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 Thanks again to both of you. I got to around $183 and then stopped as the savings for us is not worth the risk. I'll make a note to try this again in about a month and see how it goes. As I mentioned we do have something booked so its not like we're going to be on the street.Appreciate all your efforts. The re-bidding process worked exactly as you indicated and was very straightforward once I walked through it. Admittedly I was a bit nervous at the beginning to end up with a hotel in Coney Island but it all worked out great and I understand the re-bidding process and how there really isn't any risk. Will check back in about a month and let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
