Priceline Hotel: Pricing Question/Strategies for NOLA

Good afternoon! We're planning a trip to NOLA for February 3-7 and will Priceline the hotel. We used it for our trip (and used the PRICELINE links here) in October and landed a great deal for a 4* in the Quarter for $70/night. I'm not having the same luck in the price range and even added in the Downtown/Convention Center and 3.5* for up to $75/night. I have a couple of questions:

• Should I wait until I'm closer to the date to see if the hotels drop their amounts? Does anyone know if this is common practice?

• Given the fact that we're there for a full weekend (Friday through Monday), does that make our bid increase, too?

• If you have any strategies, that would be great. Would love to do a start bid of $60 and really don't want to go higher than $80, if possible.

Thanks for any assistance. I've been using this board for ages and it's always been helpful!

Good evening. :)

Rates are date-specific; a weekend may be expensive but the next weekend may not be. What zones would be acceptable? These dates appear a little higher than normal; I'm not sure $80 will be enough for a 4* (and possibly not for 3.5*), but it may not take too much more than that - depending on zone.

Please read the Priceline FAQ, which has a detailed discussion of timing.

Thanks for the info. We are going when Mardi Gras isn't in full swing yet as that's the following weekend. But it is Super Bowl weekend and there's a chance that the Saints will be in it. Although the big game isn't in New Orleans, I wonder if the city is expecting a lot of people in town for the giant party if they do end up. Who knows? I'll start bidding again and will post what I get.

I prefer a higher end hotel in either the Quarter or Downtown area. I know I can get way cheaper deals out by the airport or even Metairie, but we are relying on our feet and streetcars for transportation.

Oh, and thanks to whomever posted the links on my original post!

I think you do have a shot at a 4* hotel at $80 or less (if not, you're likely within ~$10 or so of a win). To give it a try...

At the 4* level in New Orleans you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Downtown...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80

Any questions feel free to ask.

I did this last night and got all the way up to 80, still no luck. Although I'm going for French Quarter so the only ones i'm not selecting are Downtown and Convention. I'll try again tonight and post on my success. It looks like things are pretty pricey for that weekend, probably because the super bowl happens to be then. I'm looking to check in the 3rd and check out the 6th.
