ruch182 Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Hi there - I'm a newbie on this site and very new to priceline as well. I've had a read of most of the faqs etc. and now need some final help before I start bidding!I'm looking to stay at a 5* hotel on the strip, ideally the venetian or the palazzo - I'm definitely looking to stay away from the trump hotel and other ones far away/off the strip. Our max budget before tax/resort fees would be around $130, but hopefully for the dates of 2/19 - 2/22, as it's a Sunday to Wednesday trip, we may be able to get something cheaper? What should my bidding strategy be? And I'll be sure to use the PRICELINE link you have! Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Is a 5* in the South Strip zone acceptable as well... or are you only looking to bid the Strip North zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. ruch182 Posted January 3, 2012 Author Report Posted January 3, 2012 It should be fine - basically anything central and on the strip so that you don't really need to take a taxi to get anywhere. Thanks for the help
thereuare Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 I would think that both Strip North and Strip South would both work well for your needs, but you should examine the zones carefully to ensure that each meets your needs. At the 5* level you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Strip North and Strip South...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ruch182 Posted January 3, 2012 Author Report Posted January 3, 2012 Thanks for the quick reply - so as I understand it, the rebid zones you add are essentially adding zones where you know there is no (in this case) 5* hotel, so that by default priceline is only searching the original areas? So the strategy is to originally search with south and north strip to see if anything comes up, then slowly add each re-bid zone where there are no 5* hotels to each search? If I am rejected the second time (i.e North + South + Zone without 5*), for the new bid am I allowed to remove the new zone (without any 5*) and add a different one (without any 5*)? Or does priceline only allow additions to the previous bid without any amendments? Thanks a lot for all this help, this website is great.
thereuare Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Mostly correct......adding zones where you know there is no (in this case) 5* hotel...So you're prepared for future bidding, you want zones that don't contain the star rating or higher that you're bidding. So in other words, if you're bidding 4*, you want zones that don't contain 4* hotels, but also don't contain Resort class or 5* hotels. This is because the star rating you choose is the minimum you're willing to accept, so PRICELINE could always upgrade your 4* bid to a Resort or 5* hotel (if offered). Hope that doesn't confuse you (or anyone else following along), but it's a more complete answer. It's not necessarily applicable to your 5* bidding (since that is the higher star rating offered), but i wanted you to know for any future bidding you do in other zones.Or does priceline only allow additions to the previous bid without any amendments? You an only add zones to your previous bid. There are things that you can do such as closing the browser and then using our PRICELINE link to re-access PRICELINE, which 'wipes the slate clean' (duplicate bid rules still apply, but it does allow you to essentially 'UNcheck' a zone), but since you have so many re-bid zones available this really isn't necessary for the bidding strategy above, you can simply add a re-bid zone to each rejected bid.Any additional questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ruch182 Posted January 3, 2012 Author Report Posted January 3, 2012 Great, thanks so much for the help. I think I'm in the position to start bidding now. Just one more question - I had a quick look at the list of hotels. I know it may not be up to date, things may have changed etc. but I would really prefer not to stay at the trump hotel. Is it definitely not included in the north strip area for Priceline?
Romelle Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 The Trump is in the "8 Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North - Condo" zone. By not checking that choice, you avoid it.Romelle

ruch182 Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 No luck with this - I've bid up to around $140. I don't have too much flexibility with dates either. From the 15th I'm in San Francisco and have the flight home from LA on the 23rd morning. I would have thought non-weekend dates would be cheaper? Any suggestions?
Romelle Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Curious results on Hotwire. For 2/19-2/22 the 5* North strip is $102. However, taking one day at a time it is $110, $98 and $98. So Sunday night is a little higher than the other two. I'd guess the Hotwire offering is the Trump, but you could get somebody here to check it out if you posted back the amenities (or just compared them to the Hotwire lists). Possibility- you could split your bid and go for a 4* Priceline or the Hotwire 5* for the Sunday night. Then continue trying for the 5* for the other two nights (starting your bidding lower again). If you do decide to try 4* bidding, do remember you have to recheck the free rebids. There are less of them, and one of them is NOT Summerlin.Romelle
