vicsars Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 My first time to Vegas, we want to be able to walk around and be in the heart of it. Looking for cheapest room possible but still nice. We are happy with 2 queen beds.I have tried bidding at 60$ a night with no success- will I get 4* for this or do I need to go to 3*?We want a clean comfortable hotel with a bit of bling, but not off the beaten track, is there a big difference between 3 and 4*?To get a 4* what do you suggest I bid? And yes I use the PRICELINE link when I bid.Dates are 13th to 15th Jan, a weekend. Thanks,Vic
thereuare Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Few issues:This is the weekend immediately following the CES convention, one of the largest shows of the year in Vegas, and many attendees may stay the weekend following the show to continue networking, relax, make a vacation out of the trip after the show, etc... $60 isn't typically enough for a 4* hotel on weekend dates, and it probably won't be enough for these particular dates given the reasons mentioned here.PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and most Vegas hotels now charge extra for occupancy more than two (and at some hotels for rooms with two beds vs. one bed). While you may be fine with two Queen beds in the room, there is way to guarantee such a room configuration before your purchase. Are you willing to risk booking for double occupancy when you'll actually be three? If not, HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensures sleeping accommodations for as many people you include in your search, although note that the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc.The Westin is a 4* rated hotel in PRICELINE Strip South zone, but this is not directly on the strip but slightly off-strip. As well, this property does not have the 'bling' of most other Vegas properties, would this be an acceptable outcome?Let us know your thoughts on the issues above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. vicsars Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 I bid today on PRICELINE $80 on 4* with no success. Thanks for the tip a on using HOTWIRE. I see a 3* north area for $42 and a 4* south area for $92. I dont mind paying the extra for the 4* if it will make our trip to Vegas better?Do you know which 2 hotels these are likely to be?Thanks again

vicsars Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 The 3 results I get when search for 3 people on HOTWIRE are;$43 3* North area, 80% recommendation, Amenities-resort, casino, fitness centre, pool$112 4* North area, 80% recommendation, Amenities-resort, casino, fitness centre, pool, restaurant, business centre, golf nearby$121 4* North area, 85% recommendation, Amenities- casino, fitness centre, restaurant, business centre, high speed internet, golf nearby
thereuare Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Are you sure you have the zones and/or star ratings correct, and that you're including 3adults for your search?HOTWIRE only shows one hotel in each zone at each star rating, so you wouldn't see two 4* hotels in the same zone as you've indicated above (unless one was considered a Condo, which from the amenities you've listed doesn't appear that one of these is classified as such)Also, when searching your dates (Jan 13-15 / 3adults) the 3* i see in this zone has more amenities than you've indicated above, as well, the 4* i see offered is more expensive than either of the 4* properties you've listed above. Please confirm / verify the information and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
