Janisa, I'm looking to book a stay for Feb 2nd to Feb 6th and the Dream hotel looks pretty good at $160. What value did you start your bidding at?

Note that you can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. The user above won this property because of availability at hotels in the area for these specific dates, not because of the order of the bids they made or the amount they started at. Even if you follow exactly what they have done, you could receive a different hotel for your own set of dates.

If you're trying to target a specific property, with HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates.

I'm just curious as to what other amounts were tried and whether I can find the same or equivalent property at a lower price. I'm aware of the risks involved with Priceline as I've used it many times before.

I did not have success at 150 and below. 160 was the magic number! Hope that helps.

Thanks Janisa. I tried up to $185 without success so I went with a deal on Travelzoo instead. I think if I had broken up the dates then I would have been more successful but since I'm going from Thursday to Monday, I would have had to break it into three since Friday and Saturday night are the more expensive nights.
