bond316 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I recently saw a bunch of new zones added so not sure about how to bid for either a 4* or 3.5* in NYC. I do not want to stay in uws, ues, bk, or queens. The other zones in the city should be fine.Is it realistic to hope for a room in the $150 range? Trying to maximize the stars for the $Thanks!
thereuare Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 You can try, but i'd be surprised if you're accepted for a 3.5* or better hotel at $150 or less for New Years Eve... most NYC hotels can sell-out (or be at near full occupancy) on their own so there is little reason to offer deep discounts to the opaque suppliers for this nite. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bond316 Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 Yes, this is what I'm afraid of. I guess I'm hoping for a last minute special. Could you help me out with a bidding strategy? I'll bid up to 170 and then adjust from there if necessary. Thanks!
thereuare Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 To avoid any confusion, please list the zones you are willing to accept (rather than the ones you won't accept) and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 At the 3.5* (and higher) star level you have SIX re-bid zones (however, i intentionally left one re-bid zone out since you have little time and we can use that later if necessary, so just remember which re-bid zone you DIDN'T use). If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* CPS, Chelsea, DT, ESB, LES, MSG, MTE, MTW, Soho, TS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* HK...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Chelsea, DT, ESB, HK, LES, MSG, MTE, MTW, Soho, TS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170If the above is rejected close browser and repeat, but use 3.5* instead of 4*.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. bond316 Posted December 31, 2011 Author Report Posted December 31, 2011 I bid past 170 with no luck :( Makes sense given the time of year. Since I bid past my budget with no luck, there is no need to continue. Thanks for trying!
thereuare Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Come celebrate tomorrow and it will be much cheaper ;)NYE is usually a tough nite at many hotels, especially in NYC, but this year is particularly difficult given it falls on a Saturday nite (making it a 3 day weekend for most), so more people are looking to go away for the weekend and celebrate out of town.Hope you have a good time tonite regardless of what plans you make to celebrate.
