ldhock Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 It appears the Renaissance is the only 4 star Priceline hotel in the Downtown area. We love staying right on 17th Street and are looking for a couple nights after a cruise in March. Seems like if I bid for a 4 star Downtown with a sufficient dollar amount I'm going to the Renaissance. Am I missing something? Never done Priceline or Hotwire before.
AaronJB Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The only 4* in the Ft Lauderdale downtown zone is the Renaissance; there may be new hotels that have not yet been reported to the board or star ratings may have changed causing a previously unreported hotel to appear. Overall, the Renaissance is the only known 4* in this zone, but there is always the possibility that can change unexpectedly. In terms of a particular bid, what are your date/s of travel and desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ldhock Posted December 27, 2011 Author Report Posted December 27, 2011 We are looking at March 15 and 16th. I'd like to pay no more than $100. I believe this hotel is available on Hotwire for $105 based on the information provided.
thereuare Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 I believe this hotel is available on Hotwire for $105...When searching HOTWIRE for your dates the 4* hotel i'm seeing in the Las Olas-Downtown zone is priced at $173/nite... are you still seeing a 4* priced at $105? If so, what are the amenities associated with the HOTWIRE property offered? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ldhock Posted December 28, 2011 Author Report Posted December 28, 2011 You are correct, my error. The one I saw for $105, now $108 was in the Beach area. It lists golf nearby so is probably Pier 66. Guess I better get something locked in as it seems prices are going up.
ldhock Posted December 28, 2011 Author Report Posted December 28, 2011 Tried this morning at $100 and didn't get it, didn't really think I would. Another question, we live in a state where smoking in public areas is totally banned. We're really spoiled as non-smokers to not being subject to the smell of smoke. What's the likelihood of securing a non-smoking room after booking?
thereuare Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 With smoking on the decline and more and more hotels are going the 'smoke free' route, and those that do allow smoking are allocating fewer rooms as smoking permitted rooms. HOWEVER, if you must have a non-smoking room you should choose a HOTWIRE hotel which displays this amenity (there is no way to assure a smoke free room with PRICELINE)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ldhock Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 Verified the hotel is smoke free, so no issues there. I have submitted bids for three days now, recognizing I'm kind of low balling it, but not being successful. Am I better off to keeping raising slightly each day at this time, or hold off and try again in a week or two? Again, looking at March 15 & 16.
thereuare Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Verified the hotel is smoke free...Note that while the Renaissance is a smoke-free property, you're not bidding on this hotel specifically... there could always be new hotels added to the system, a previously hotel reported to the board upgraded to the 4* level, or hotels not yet reported to the board....recognizing I'm kind of low balling it, but not being successful. Am I better off to keeping raising slightly each day at this time, or hold off and try again in a week or two?Based upon current rates I don't think you're that close, so it depends if you're enjoying placing lowball bids in the hope of getting accepted OR if you really want to secure a room for this trip at this point in time.If you want to continue to lowball, i'd suggest booking a back-up reservation which is fully refundable to protect yourself from price rising even further from there. As well, check out our newly launched Pre Cruise Hotels.com site which makes it easy to see hotels near the pier and how much more/less it would cost to stay closer/further away from the pier and go up/down in star rating. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ldhock Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Can you assist with identifying the following hotel on Hotwire being offered at $179/night for March 15 and 16?4-star Hotel in Las Olas - Downtown - Port EvergladesThis Hotel features the following amenities:Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Thank you.
thereuare Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. The property above matches previous reports for the Renaissance so that would be my best guess for this one.Given that you've only bid up to $100 thus far (or have you bid higher and not updated the thread?) are you willing to pay $179/nite for this 4* property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ldhock Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 My last Priceline bid was $160, about a week ago. At that time I went ahead and booked a cancellable reservation at Extended Stay America, we now qualify for the Senior rate. :( In discussing this with hubby last night, we've got a lot invested in this trip (this is a post-cruise stay and we're spending two nights on the front end at the Embassy Suites using points) and he'd rather spend a bit more for a nice hotel on the back end than skimp on the end of the trip.
AaronJB Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Are there any other nearby zones that would be acceptable? Rates in Fort Lauderdale in general do appear on the high side, but some of the areas surrounding downtown seem more reasonable than downtown.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or regular rate links in the Support Page area.

ldhock Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Maybe our own worst enemy in that regard. We really like the 17th Street area, can walk to restaurants, bars and shops that we like. I'm amazed at how prices have escalated in that area over the years. Guess we just bit the bullet if that's what we really want. Thanks for your assistance.
thereuare Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 ...on the front end at the Embassy Suites using points...What are the date(s) of the pre-cruise stay... if those nites happen to be cheap(er) for any reason perhaps an option is to use points on the backend of the trip and PRICELINE / HOTWIRE for the front end? At the very least seems like something to explore. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ldhock Posted February 16, 2012 Author Report Posted February 16, 2012 I have now searched through your links and have come up with the same hotel as referenced above at a rate of $123 today. Can you provide any insight. As to your previous question regarding staying at the Embassy Suites on the backend. There are no non-smoking rooms available, for one thing and for aanother we want the suite arrangement on the frontend to accommodate our 19 year old son.

ldhock Posted July 2, 2012 Author Report Posted July 2, 2012 We ended up booking the Holiday Inn at Highland Beach using a combination of points and cash. Got a very reasonable rate on a rental car through our employer's leisure rate. Although an older hotel, well maintained and right on the beach. Although we ventured from our usual 17th Street location, we had no regrets on the back end about venturing out.
AaronJB Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 Thank you for closing the thread - glad you enjoyed your stay.
