Hi, I'd appreciate bidding help! I'm looking for a 3* or higher, ideally in the $80-100 range. Staying 3 nights, 1/5 to 1/8.

I'm all right with any zone in Manhattan that has subway access, so: Central Park South, Chelsea, SoHo Tribeca, ESB, Hell's Kitchen, MSG, Midtown East, Midtown West, Morningside Heights/Harlem, SoHo Tribeca, Times Square, UES, UWS.

Hotwire shows 3.5* for $81 in Midtown East (undoubtedly the Roosevelt based on the amenities and reviews) as the best deal, with the next highest being $101 for a 4* in SoHo. Does this mean I should be bidding slightly lower?

This is generally one of the slowest periods of the year in NYC and keeping within your desired bid range shouldn't be any issue - a 4* may be somewhat over $100 in Midtown, but around $100 or slightly under in some areas (such as Downtown/Soho.) Do you need to be in/near a particular area? Given that your budget is within range for just about any area, if there was a particular area you needed/wanted to be in, you could try for that area and not have as great a need for public transit. If HOTWIRE is showing a particular price range for a star rating/area, PRICELINE is *usually* cheaper, although inventory can certainly vary on PRICELINE vs. HOTWIRE.

Great, thanks. I will need to be in both Midtown East and Morningside Heights, but really I am flexible with the location. In that case let me shoot for 4* in SoHo Tribeca, Chelsea, MSG, ESB, MTW, MTE, Times Square with a max bid of $90. If that strategy does not work out, I can drop to 3.5* with a max bid of $80.

I'm doubtful that $90 will be enough for a 4* hotel, but

When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Soho-Tribeca, Chelsea, MSG, ESB, MTW, MTE, TS...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $90

If the above is rejected, please clarify if you're looking to bid the 3.5* with these same zones OR the zones listed in your first post? If the latter, note that in the MTE zone some 'known' 3.5* properties can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, and in the CPS at the 3.5* level is the Hudson Hotel, which while well located has notoriously small rooms.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Many thanks, thereuare. I just scored the Sheraton Tribeca at $88. I'll update the other forum with my price.

Started bidding at $70, won at $88. Thanks to AaronJB and thereuare for the bidding strategy!
