Redcat Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Hi,I would please need some help to get a nice 5* hotel in Hong Kong to a decent price for a private stay. We travel from 03/06/12 and stay for 6 nights, so there is still plenty of time. We would prefer TST as hotel zone, but it could also be another nice zone. My first bid was 140 Dollars for Tsim Sha Tsui (TST), after rejection I added West Hong Kong Island and bid 145 Dollars. Again, it was rejected.Has anyone any suggestions for the strategy, e.g. should I just wait to increase the chance to get a room around that price or do you think I have to pay much more for a 5* room? (I'm not yet decided where my limit is or if I should downgrade instead to 4*).Thank you for any help, I will finish this topic any way (regardless of the outcome with priceline).Sincerely from Munich,Redcat
thereuare Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 I'm assuming that both TST and WHK are both acceptable? If so, and you're willing to bid higher, is there a reason you haven't used your re-bid zones? (there are THREE re-bid zones available when bidding 5* in the Hong Kong region). If you're not familiar with re-bidding see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask any questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board.Based upon current prices, my guess is that you're probably looking at $170-$190 for a 5* hotel for this stay (but of course any strategy we suggest would star lower and gradually bid higher)Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Redcat Posted December 21, 2011 Author Report Posted December 21, 2011 Yes, TST and WHK would both be acceptable.Thank you for the reminder to check for free rebid zones (I somehow assumed that there are 5* hotels all over Hong Kong).I came to 160 Dollars for TST today, but was still rejected. Finally added WHK and lowered to 150 Dollars, no success.Still plenty of time left. I think I will go to 175 Dollars this week and if again rejected, I will wait four weeks or so.
thereuare Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Since you didn't bid as high for WHK as you did for TST, is this area not as favorable to you OR did you run out of bidding opportunities? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Redcat Posted December 23, 2011 Author Report Posted December 23, 2011 I would prefer TST and therefore added WHK after 3 rebids with non 5* zones. Since I did not check all options for WHK at this day (because I added it in last rebid), I lowered the offer again.Today, I came to 175 Dollars with TST and 160 Dollars WHK, still no success.I use the PRICELINE links of the board,Sincerely,Redcat
thereuare Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 An alternate/better approach would be:(the numbers can be whatever you'd like them to be, but i included so you could see how the same bids repeat themselves for the second zone/bidding cycle, then increase for the last round of bidding)Select 5* TST...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* WHK...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* TST and WHK...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185 if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190Of course on your last round of bidding this does give you the least expensive 5* in either the TST or WHK zone without a preference towards TST, but it does enable you to get many more bidding opportunities. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. Redcat Posted April 9, 2015 Author Report Posted April 9, 2015 I did not book through PRICELINE for this trip because I was not successful in booking for an acceptable price.

Redcat Posted April 10, 2015 Author Report Posted April 10, 2015 No, I did not cancel the trip I booked a Hotel through Expedia website. There was a reduced rate for the Hotel and very good reviews. I cannot remember the exact name of the Hotel, something with youth in it. Actually it was a very nice stay, a perfect Location and a good price for it. It was also a non refundable deal for the Booking.
