adil93 Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Hi everyone,My wife and I are planning to go to New York next weekend, neither of us have been there before. (Dec 22-25 or 23-26)We will be driving down, so I assume a Hotel with free parking is a good idea.Don't mind staying in Long Island or Brooklyn, but would like to be near a Subway to get into the city easily. We will be touring, eating and shopping (besides Canal St. and Woodbury outlets, what else is good?)Looking for at least a 2*, preferably 3*, but don't plan on spending much time at the hotel.I was looking to name my own price on priceline, but cant get free parking as an option so did not want to bid just yet.Any suggestions you have are welcomed! What kind of bid should I offer?
thereuare Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is your expected budget for this stay as we'll then have a better sense of what will likely be possible. From what direction will you be heading into the city from? Are you willing to commute to the city by bus or only by subway? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click each of these previous links before replying.Thanks. adil93 Posted December 19, 2011 Author Report Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks thereuare! We're heading in from Montreal, don't mind bus or subway, whatever is quick and easybudget is under $80/night, but the cheaper the better!
thereuare Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 This is an inexpensive time in NYC and you might be able to get a 3* or better hotel directly in NYC for these dates, but the parking may be a deal breaker for you, as you're not going to find included parking anywhere in NYC (i know of one hotel in NYC that offers free parking, the Travel Inn hotel)If you can't find on-street parking for free (which is difficult in the city, but perhaps not as tough given the holiday weekend... i'm not certain but meters may be suspended on Dec 24, and they should be Dec 25, which would make the situation much easier, especially if you're willing to park outside of midtown and take the subway to your hotel from wherever you leave your vehicle). If you're not willing to park your car on the street, you should expect $20-$30/day for parking (at a local lot apart from the hotel you receive). The other option is to park outside of the city enroute at a Park N Ride or train station and take the bus or train for the balance of the trip into the city.If the above is not acceptable, it then becomes an issue of budget vs. convenience. Personally i'm not a fan of the 'east of Manhattan' zones like Long Island City, Airports, etc. and prefer the NJ side. Jersey City-Hoboken is the most convenient, and the 4* hotels here are all relatively new, but parking becomes an issue as well and the hotels are probably just out of reach of your $80 budget (closer to $95+ and for that price i'd sooner recommend staying directly in the city). Next would be the Secaucus area where most of the hotels are near a bus stop into the city, but should you land something which is not, you could drive to the Park N Ride and take the bus into the city each day. In this area almost all the hotels have free parking, and the commute is certainly do-able, but it's just not as convenient as staying directly in Manhattan (or Jersey City as a second choice). Of course there is still Long Island City as an option, but as i noted above, i'm not such a fan as the area feels 'dirty' to me.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
