jinxplayer Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 Hello again,Looking for some rooms on Sanibel. According to priceline, the 2 2 1/2 star hotels on sanibel are actually 2 resorts. I tried bidding on them today, first @ $60, then rebid with Marco island (they only list 1 star and resorts) @ $78 with no luck. As everyplace else in the area has these classes of hotels, I will try tomorrow with more the same way.
thereuare Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 According to priceline, the two 2 1/2 star hotels on sanibel are actually 2 resorts. Not sure i'm following 100%, but if you're using the 'retail' version of PRICELINE to determine what you will get when bidding, you can't do that as 1) each side of their service uses their own universe of hotels, and 2) each uses different zones and boundaries. See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ for more infomration. I assume you're fine with any 2.5* hotel or higher in this zone? (as your 2.5* bid could be upgraded to a higher rated hotel)I tried bidding on them today, first @ $60, then rebid with Marco island (they only list 1 star and resorts) @ $78 with no luck.Similar to above, the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept, so when you add Marco Island your 2.5* bid could be upgraded to a Resort class hotel... would it be acceptable if you landed a Resort on Marco Island? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jinxplayer Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 I would prefer sanibel. Going to bid again tonight, will report back.
thereuare Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I would prefer sanibel. Then you would not want to add Marco Island as a re-bid zone (since it doesn't qualify as a re-bid zone)Please remember to start your bids with the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board (and click each of these links before replying)Thanks. jinxplayer Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 Wouldn't it be fair to say that the hotels on the retail side of priceline are not necessarily on the bidding side? I understand it wont be bit for bit, but cant one assume that they share some hotels? When I start researching on hotels to bid on, I use google maps to search the area manually for hotels and attractions. While the composite ratings score that google complies differs from priceline, the fact that are there very few chain hotels in this area makes me thing i should be happy with any one of them there. But regarding the practice of accepting a bid from a higher ranked star hotel, when you use priceline bidding for this, resorts are below 1 star on the list. Wouldnt it be safe to assume that the system considers that a downgrade, or perhaps it is just there because there is always a bottom end hotel, and never always a top ranked one?
