Hotwire Hotel: Looking for 3* + in NYC December 21-23

I am looking to book a room for two nights in Manhattan December 21-23. I have looked on Hotwire a few times and things change daily. I think at this point we would consider Chelsea, Empire State, or one of the Midtowns. Soho (on Hotwire) seems to include too much area to really consider. I know I can book a Hampton Inn for $111, so I would like to do better then that.

Right now I am looking at a 3.5* in Chelsea - Madison Square Garden. $98. Amenities are: Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed and Business. Sounds like the Doubletree, but since the Doubletree books at $199 a night, I doubt that is correct (50% off??).

Any way to get more confidence in what hotel it might be or suggestions in general to get a sweet deal? (sub - $100)

Thanks,

Fred.

PS. Typically I use Priceline, but for smaller cities. NYC seems to have more risk. Things rated 3 stars seem to get some pretty bad reviews online, so I am a bit fearful of pulling the trigger. Should I be? If I did use Priceline, what should I bid? $75 for 3.5*?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

The Chelsea-MSG property above matches both the Ramada New Yorker and the Doubletree, so either of these would be a likely outcome (and the Ramada is typically seen more frequently then the Doubletree... although you should be prepared for either)

PRICELINE vs. HOTWIRE comes down to a trade-off between the lowest possible price vs. having more of a comfort level in the hotel you will be awarded. PRICELINE is usually cheaper than HOTWIRE, but HOTWIRE gives you known amenities, a guess as to which property you may receive, and a percent recommendation by previous HOTWIRE guests (which can give a bit of comfort in making your purchase).

You may be able to get a 4* hotel on PRICELINE for ~$120 or so if you're willing to stretch your budget a bit further, otherwise it comes down to your comfort level vs. your budget.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
