ann84 Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Hi,This is my first time using Priceline, and after reading the forums on here extensively, I think I have a good understanding of how to go about bidding. However, I am still a newbie and would like some help. I will be going to NYC and need a hotel from December 31 - January 4. I would like to stay somewhere 3*+ and in the MSG, Chelsea, ES, MTE, MTW and CPS area. I realize this is a very expensive time of the year, so how much should I realistically be expecting to pay for a bid? Thanks.
thereuare Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't done so already, please start by reading your messages.I'm guessing you're looking at about the following for a midtown hotel:4* - $200/$2203.5* - $2003* - $175Is this within your expected budget? Let us know what star rating you'd like to try for first and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ann84 Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 Thanks, I read the message. I was hoping to pay no more than $175 which I know is unlikely for 4*, so I guess we can start with 3.5*. Also, what would I be looking at to pay for a hotel in Jersey City instead? I don't mind not being in the city, as long as it is easily accessible.
thereuare Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Hard to say how much cheaper Jersey City would be, if it all... the 'problem' with this stay is that the nite of 12/31 is very expensive and many hotels will sell-out on their own, so little reason to offer deeply discounted inventory to the opaque suppliers. Although the balance of your stay is fairly inexpensive for the area, if a hotel hasn't provided inventory for the nite of 12/31 then they are completely out of the running for your 12/31-1/4 stay.If you want to try for NYC first, at the 4* level (it's worth a try) you have SIX re-bid zones at the 4* level... SEVEN re-bid zones at the 3.5* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW and CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175If the above is rejected close the browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE:Select 3.5* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, MSG...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, CPS, MSG...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. ann84 Posted December 15, 2011 Author Report Posted December 15, 2011 I just tried the suggested bidding strategy (bidding up to $185) with no luck. Can we try for 3*, bidding max of $185, and include all zones EXCEPT Brooklyn, Coney Island, and Long Island City?
thereuare Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 Please include the zones, by PRICELINE name, which offer 3* bidding and you're willing to accept (rather than the zones you won't accept), as this avoids any confusion regarding which zones are acceptable. We'll then suggest a strategy for you follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. ann84 Posted December 16, 2011 Author Report Posted December 16, 2011 Of course! I actually rented an apartment. It certainly doesn't compare to the luxury of a hotel, but you can still find great apartments at a fraction of the cost for a hotel room during this time of the year.
