besskc Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 Hi!I'm excited to have just found this site. I am planning a romantic getaway for me and my boyfriend and was hoping to find somewhere fun and special to stay in Manhattan. We have friends in the Upper East Side so will likely be spending most of our time in that area, but my priority is for us to stay in the nicest hotel we can afford and from what I've been told, some of the nicest hotels are in the Central Park South and Midtown East areas, yet they should be an easy cab ride to the UES. I don't want to spend more than $200 a night. I just found a Hotwire deal for a 4.5 star in Midtown East for $181 a night. More info is below. Any idea what hotel this is? Any recommendations for a different search (different neighborhood perhaps) that I should try instead?thanks!4.5-star Hotel in Midtown EastThis Hotel features the following amenities:Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. As well, you're near the 6 train which will easily take you to the Upper East Side for times when you don't want to spend the extra money for a taxi. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. besskc Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 Many thanks! I just looked at the Benjamin's site and the going rate for those nights is $199 so I don't really feel like I'm getting much of a bargain with the hotwire rate of $181. Is there a better option for me to get more bang for my buck?
thereuare Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 This is low season for NYC so 'retail' rates are already fairly low (relatively speaking for NYC).You could try bidding on PRICELINE for the best bang for your buck, but then you're subject to any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) you select. While any 4* hotel should qualify as 'nice', it may be a business oriented property and less the 'romantic' place you're looking for. So it's a trade-off between ensuring a deal vs. ensuring a 'romantic getaway'.Some other options you may want to consider (ie- i think the type of hotel you're looking for an a decent location for your plans):Affinia Dumont $143-$179 (thru their own website... the latter for a 1BR suite)Affinia 50 $144-$200/niteThoughts on the above?
