Argh! I first bid $140 for a 4* in Palm Springs proper area, which was rejected. Increased bid to $145 and added 3.5* and was STILL rejected!! I am really surprised! Esp. as it told me mid-price for 3.5* was 211. Am wiling to increase my bid to $150 but if that doesn't work, I think I will go with a 2-2.5* listed hotel for $120-146.

You've really got quite a bit of time yet. If those listed places you mentioned are cancelable, maybe you could reserve one of them and then continue bidding up until the last minute.

Also, the 3* Hotwire AaronJB mentioned is $116 (at the moment - rates change frequently). And often the experts here can give you a pretty good guess as to what the hotel might be. You can link to it through the HOTWIRE link up in the upper left hand corner of this page.

What are the 2*/2.5* hotels you're considering going with?

Also, from your previous post i know that location is a factor for this stay, so you may want to try a search at our new re-launch of MAPS and HOTELS.com which will give you an easy way to see what star level hotel is within your budget and closest to your desired location, as well as how much you can save by lowering your star rating and/or expanding a bit further away from where you need to ideally be.

Thanks.

My top choices are:

Movie Colony Hotel- $146/night

Caliente Tropics Resort- $71

7 Springs Inn and Suites- $123

A Place in the Sun B & B- $139

The Plaza Resort and Spa- $139

Alcazar- $156

Movie Colony is my top choice, as they have (limited) spa services, poolside drinks (free "happy hour"), and it is a resort feel (so I hear). However, there is only 1 room available at $146, and one available at $158.

Yes, as I'm "correcting"/exchanging my original bid that got me La Quinta, I need to stay in the Palm Springs proper area in order to receive my refund ($105), which I definitely want to do.

I am happy with the 3.5 stars in that area (Hilton, Zoso, Ace, Viceroy)

For 3 stars, I would be very happy to get Posh Palm Springs, but am not sure I'd want to bid up to $160 on Best Western Plus Las Brisas (listed rate is $164 and the rate on their website for my dates is $129!!!); the 3d option, Courtyard by Marriott, doesn't seem like anything special and doesn't have a bar or spa services, as far as I can tell (it seems to be a timeshare condo).

Sorry for the long reply!!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I'm doing an "exchange" with PL due to bidding on the wrong area, and must rebid for the same dates in my desired area (Palm Springs proper) on PL in order to get a a refund ($105-- half my original reservation in La Quinta).

Assuming i'm understanding the refund issue correctly, keep in mind that if you book direct you lose ~$100 worth of PRICELINE 'value' since you won't get a refund from your previous purchase... which makes a $150/nite direct hotel purchase close to $200/nite given this is a 2 nite stay. Not sure if you're including this type of calculation in determining your maximum bid, but definitely something to keep in mind, imo.

Actually, I can book either way-- direct or name your own price- and receive the refund. I chatted w/a customer service rep last night, who told me there were no rooms available for those nights in Palm Springs above 2 stars (why my higher bids kept getting rejected). So I will be going direct. In the future, I think I'm going to stick with hotwire!! I find PL to be somewhat stressful.
