wpower6 Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Hi guys, I am new to Priceline/Hotwire. After reading the Priceline FAQ and some other posts in this forum, I found I'd better ask for advice before I go to bid.I am going to Ottawa Dec 13 to Dec 15 and plan to bid for a 4* hotel in downtown. I have found among the 4 regions in Ottawa, downtown is the only one that has 4* hotels, while all other three regions only have up to 3* hotels. However, I am not sure if some resorts of 3* or lower would be considered 4* hotel, as I read from a post here that resorts may be considered higher star than they really are. Similar thing for Quebec city. I am visiting there from Dec 17 to 19. I am also looking for 4* hotels and among the 3 regions in Quebec city, only the region Quebec has 4* hotels.I am wondering is there anything I need to take care when choosing region. Any tips, suggestions etc? Thanks a lot.
wpower6 Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 Used the Hotwire box in this website and found this 3* hotel in Ottawa Downtown for Dec 13-15. Can you please help to identify. thereuare Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! There are currently no "resort" rated properties offered thru PRICELINE in the Ottawa (or Quebec for that matter) region. When available, it's listed as its own star rating under the 1 star hotel in the available star rating list. At the current time you can use all three other zones as re-bid zones when bidding in the Ottawa region. However, always double check just before bidding, making sure nothing has changed, by using the method in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. In regards to the HOTWIRE property above, the Extended Stay Deluxe has previously been seen with this amenity set so that would be my best guess for this one.If you'd prefer to bid on PRICELINE, let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wpower6 Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 Thank you for the reply. I am planning to try in Priceline with a maximal bid of $100/night for a 4 star hotel in Ottawa downtown (Dec 13-15). If the rate goes higher than that I'd rather use Starwood points to get room in Westin which is also a good deal.I have just tried at Priceline today I bid $75, $80, $85, $90 but all didn't work. Thanks again for such a quick reply with so much information. Pretty helpful.
thereuare Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 My guess is that your $100 target may be tough to beat, but you can try the following 24 hours after your last round of bidding:Select 4* Downtown...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
