Im Dan Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Hi,I really need some bidding help on this one. I am looking for a NYC hotel room 3*, 3.5*, or 4* through priceline for Dec 9-12 (3 nights), and striking out with bids placed yesterday. These are my bids yesterday, all rejected. I would really like to stay in these areas: ESB, MTW,CPS,Times SQ. The UES & QB were my re-bids for 3.5* & 4* because they contain none of those stars. I can currently get a deal for 3 star near Madison Sq Gardens for $240/ni, so I'm not sure how much I should keep going. Thanks for your help.3 Stars:135 ESB150 ESB, Times sq160 ESB, Times sq, MTW170 ESB, MTW,175 ESB, MTW, CPS180 ESB, MTW, CPS, Times sq-------------------------------------------------3.5 stars:125 ESB, MTW, CPS145 ESB, MTW, CPS, Upper east side160 ESB, MTW, CPS, Upp east, queens bridge175 ESB, MTW, CPS, upp east, queens, Times sq185 ESB, MTW195 ESB, MTW, upper east197 ESB, MTW, upper east, CPS209 ESB, MTW, upper east, CPS, times sq222 ESB, MTW, upper east, CPS, times sq, queen bridge---------------------------------------------4 stars:145 ESB155 ESB, MTW165 ESB, MTW, CPS199 ESB, MTW, upper east, queen209 ESB, MTW, upper east, queen, times sq225 ESB, MTW, upper east, queen, times sq, CPS

Im Dan Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 Hi,Do you think that today, if I re-bid at some of the same previous rates, I will be more successful, or do you think they are set rates, this close to 12/9, and I need to increase my bids? I'd be happy with a 3.5* for around $230-60, if possible.

Im Dan Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 yes, when booking for the best rates, I use PricelineHotwire. I thought you meant click them when ready to proceed with booking.
thereuare Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Did you bid 3* first, then 3.5*, then 4*... so that your goal is the least expensive 3* or better, but once you hit $xx (in this instance $180), you're willing to bid higher but only for a higher rated hotel, and so-on... or did you bid 4* first up to your limit, then lowered your star rating and maximum bid? What is the 3* hotel in the MSG zone that you can get for $240/nite?Are you familiar with your other re-bid zones... you actually have FIVE re-bid zones at the 4* level, FOUR re-bid zones at the 3.5* level, and ONE re-bid zone at the 3* level. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Rates for Sunday nite are very inexpensive and you may do better if you're able to bid Friday and Saturday nite separately it might be another option.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Im Dan Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 Bid 4* up to limit, then 3.5* and then 3*.The 3* is in Chelsea, but close to midtown, its the Hampton Inn.I didn't want to split the bids, because I didn't want to possibly have to relocate to another hotel mid-stay; not worth the hassles. But I did see the Sunday prices were a lot lower in general. I re-tried the 4* bidding at $240, to compete with the guaranteed 3* rate I could get, but no luck. I didn't want to try and bid the 3.5* at the same $240/night rate, because at that point, I figure the Hampton Inn seems like a solid 3* in an area that I am perfectly OK with. I just believe the rates are so competitive for that weekend in DEC, nothing was going to budge.. and I noticed some hotels on the cheaper side, even running out of rooms. I went and pulled the trigger on the 3*; sad I couldn't really bid to my advantage on this one. I lost this battle :(But when I do bid in the future, definitely the way to go is through Priceline orHotwire. Thanks
