Priceline Hotel: NYC bidding: 12/02/11 - 12/05/11

Headed to NYC this weekend with a girlfriend to do some shopping. Would like to stay relatively close to the 5th Ave shopping area so we can drop packages off at the room during the day and head back out again. I realize that this is high season in the city, and as expected, all the posted rates I've found reflect very high rates.

However, in researching recent wins, I see that there have been some successful wins at W New York in the low-to-high $200s. I would like to request a bidding strategy that would put in in the best possible position to win a Fri-Sat-Sun room at a bid price under $300. I do realize that having a Sunday night in our mix is a good thing, as that often serves to bring down the overall rate awarded. We would both like our own beds, so a DBL-DBL is what we'd prefer.

Many thanks for your assistance!

Is two beds a want or a need, as each would require a different approach and could be the difference between something within your budget for this trip.

Also, if you look at the PRICELINE zones for this region, are MTE, MTW, TS and CPS all acceptable?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

Yes, those zones would all be OK, as would UES & UWS. But what we're really trying to accomplish here is the sub-$300 rate at W New York. I followed the link on those that won this hotel for our weekend, and I could not find details on how they had bid-- zones, prices, etc., so I know that the win is possible but don't have the benefit of the strategy that produced it.

And yes, two beds but a rollaway would be fine.

And yes, two beds but a rollaway would be fine.

Not really sure if this clarifies the issue, but keep in mind that you could receive a room with only one bed and no room for a rollaway. While some do get upgrades at the W New York, their 'standard' room is one queen bed and most of their standard rooms will not accommodate a rollaway (assuming offered by the hotel, which i'm not sure if they, some NYC hotels don't give the typically small room size)

Yes, those zones would all be OK, as would UES & UWS.

There are no 4* hotels offered in the UES zone so that would not be an option.

Assuming you're ok with the possibility of only one bed (and no rollaway or pullout sofabed) and are looking for the least expensive 4* in the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS or UWS zones, you can try as follows:

When bidding 4* in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTE, MTW, and UWS...

I thought that was a good thing--including a zone where you know there is no hotel that meets your star requirement--because it basically gives you another bite at The Apple.

My travel companion needs her own bed. Sorry if that was not clear. How would you advise us to proceed?

PRICELINE only guarantees one bed/double occupancy. While one can request two beds with the hotel, there is definitely a risk in NYC with the small size of the rooms in general that the hotel will not or cannot offer a room w/2 beds. If you indicate 2 adults and 2 children on HOTWIRE, you should get more than one bed, but that could be 1 + sofabed or other combination, and when searching for more than 2 people on HOTWIRE, options are more limited and expensive. The only way to really guarantee 2 beds in NYC, given the more limited amount of two bed rooms vs most major cities - is book regular rate. Orbitz coupon ORBITZ5 should take 5% off, in terms of regular rate.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz links to start your purchases and searches.

True, but we don't list this as an 'acceptable' zone, as it's a re-bid zone (and what if tomorrow 4* hotels were suddenly offered in this zone... would it still be acceptable??). As per above, you actually have FIVE re-bid zones available in NYC, however, as you require two beds in the room, it doesn't appear as if PRICELINE will be an option for you for this stay.

If you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children, does anything appear within your desired star rating and budget?
