KevBen Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 After getting great info from this site, I stayed at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City for $65 two weeks ago. My wife and I will be there again Jan. 7-8, and would be delighted if we could get the same deal. I bid $60 for a KC downtown 4 star, and was rejected. I expanded the area to include Country Club Plaza, and upped the bid to $65. Rejected again. I dropped the star rating to 3.5 and upped the bid to $70. Rejected again. We really wanted to stay near the Power and Light District downtown. Plaza / Westport would be great, too. Any ideas?
thereuare Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding! After getting great info from this site, I stayed at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City for $65 two weeks ago.Glad to hear the board was helpful with your previous purchase, but it would be appreciated if you shared your win(s) with the board so that other can benefit from the information, just as you had benefited from those who posted before you.I dropped the star rating to 3.5 and upped the bid to $70.This is not a sound bidding approach as explained in this thread: If You Lower Your Star Rating then Lower Your Price.I suspect that you're not too far off... probably $75-$85 for a 3.5* or 4* hotel (although not necessarily the Hotel Phillips); what is your maximum bid for this stay? However, if you search MAPS and HOTELS.com you'll see that right near the Hotel Phillips is the Hilton President Kansas City offered at just $104 and also gets very good reviews. I believe this rate is non-refundable, but they may have a rate for not too much more which you can book to protect yourself from rates rising while you continue to try PRICELINE.Also at MAPS and HOTELS.com you can see that the Hotel Phillips is selling for $199/nite, which makes your current bidding at $70 only about 1/3 of prevailing rates, which is not a high probability bet.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
