I need 3 tickets Birmingham to Honolulu Aug 1-7/05. I have 180k Delta FF miles and check availability daily but no openings for standard reward (35k miles) yet. Can book Southwest/ATA codeshare for about $800 pp. This fare can then be used for future Southwest flights for one yr if I happen to get the Delta FF seats before departure which to me is better than no refund deals on other airlines. Any advice beyond the above thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like the above is your best plan since if the FF tix come thru you're not really out anything (and it appears you do enough flying that the credit would easily get used without much difficulty).

The savings would have to be considerable ($200+) for me to book this as a non-refundable tix... given that you fly a lot you may have put a different value on the savings needed.
