Hey all,

I just wanted to know which hotel I would get. I work for the airlines so now I'm looking into Aruba instead of the Dominican. The dates I plan on traveling to Aruba are 12/18 - 12/21. A 4-star hotel comes up for $141 with the following amenities:

Resort

Near Beach

Casino

Smoke Free Rooms

Fitness Center

Pool(s)

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

Laundry Facilities (self-service)

High-Speed Internet Access

Golf Nearby

Tennis Nearby

Spa Services

Children's Activity Program

I know previous threads have shown with similar amenities to be THE WESTIN HOTEL. However, the amenities for this is in different because it says "near beach" and not beachfront property. Do you still think it will be the Westin?

Thanks in Advance!

Hey! I have the same exact question as this priceline hotel thread, if I should select 4* or the Resort option in order to get the Marriott. My dates are coming up very soon: 12/18 - 12/21. I really want the Marriott. It looks like people on this forum have got the Marriott in both ways (selecting 4* and Resort). I just don't want to end up with the Renaissance. Please help! Thanks.

Right now the Marriott is rated a 4* on the retail side of Priceline. The star ratings are generally the same on the retail side and the bidding side.

The "Resort" category is sort of like a 4 1/2*. Assuming the Marriott is a 4* on the bidding side, if you bid 4* you have a chance at getting it or any other 4* rated property with the mapped area. If you bid 4 1/2* you will "overshoot" it and only get hotels rated Resort or 5* (Priceline can choose to upgrade).

The Marriott was previously rated a "Resort" so that is why you see bidding results winning at a Resort level. Also, with the word Resort in its name, that adds to the confusion.

Thanks Romelle! So in your opinion (or the moderator's opinion), I should select the "resort" option and try that? I was only confused because some people on this forum still got the Marriott when they select the 4* option.

For my dates 12/18 - 12/21:

I just verified on the retail portion of priceline that the Marriot is listed under 4* (and not as a Resort).

The hotels listed under Resort are: Hyatt, Westin, and Radisson.

The hotels listed under 4* are: Marriott and Renaissance.

So, in other words, the only way I would get the Marriott is if I selected the 4* option.........am I correct???

Yes, the only way you would get the Marriott right now is to select the 4* option. However, you could also get another 4* within that zone - the Renaissance being one possibility. Or, the Marriott could have its category changed back up to Resort. If you want to make sure the Marriott is an option, check the retail side just before bidding.

PS -I'm not a moderator, just a member. But may I first welcome you! And then suggest you start your very own thread with your dates. Just click "New Topic" when you are in the Priceline - Puerto Rico area. That way others will be able to see your results when you report your successful bid there. The moderators edit the titles when a bid is successful, and keep everything nice and neat and easy for members to scan and search.

I am so nervous because I do not want the Renaissance. Has anyone bid on priceline for Aruba in the past month?!

You can use the Calendar of Wins up under the Tools tab. Enter the beginning date of a 14 night span. Where it says "States", just start typing "Pu" and it will offer you a choice of either Hotwire or Priceline results. Usually it is worth taking a look at both of them.

Alternatively, you can do a search. Up above on the right hand side is an orange Search box, and a smaller white one below it. The smaller white one is in line with your screen name. Use that one. Enter "aruba" in the smaller white box and click on the little down arrow to choose where your search will operate. Select "Forums", and click on the green magnifying glass next to that. Your result will be all the threads that had "aruba" in them and you can see what people have received lately.

Thanks. I just bid $85, $95, $105 for the 4 star option and all got rejected....ugh!

Have you looked at what Hotwire has to say yet? Upper left hand corner on this page. It will give you an idea as to whether you are getting close or not.

And eventually you really do need to start your own thread. Although I suspect the original poster is enjoying reading your results.....

Yeah. The only 4* that pops up on hotwire is for $153 which is a resort and "near beach" so I'm guessing that's the Renaissance. However, when I change it to 2 Aduts/2 Children, another 4* comes up for $178 which a resort and beachfront which I'm sure is the Westin.

I'm going to try bidding today only but I will only click the "Resort" option. I'm going to bid for $115 and lets see.

I'm guessing you just aren't high enough yet, since there usually isn't that much difference between Hotwire and Priceline. But always worth a shot. Stranger things have happened.

What is your "Plan B"?

I have moved the posts above to their own thread as it had already gone on enough of a tangent from the OP of the other thread.

Let us know how the Resort class bidding goes and we'll take it from there... how high are you willing to bid for a Resort for this stay? Is the HOTWIRE offer an option if it will help you target your preferred property?
