I am going to stay in Toronto downtown from july 1st to 3rd, a 3* or 4* hotel is prefered, and the maximum I would accept is around 60$ (us dollar), but, of course, as low as possible.

I tried 45$ and $51, but was rejected.

Anybody help me create a better bidding stratogy?

Thanks!

Hi,Thought i would let you know that there is a big AA Covention going on on your dates for Toronto Downtown.I would think you might have a bit of a problem getting booked up ?.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

A good example of why it is important to check rates before bidding... the Marriott Eaton Center, Marriott on Bloor, Courtyard, and Renaissance are all sold-out for these dates. Hotwire shows rates in the $800's :)

How about another area or zone?

we want to visit skydome and CN tower, but we are not sure if the parking there is easy and cheap.

If it is, any hotel within some distance of driving would be ok for us.

Thanks for advicing!

In this case, I guess we don't really want to pay hundred bucks just for living in downtown.

could someone suggest some areas which is within driving distance (say, 10mile) and affordable price for hotel (around 60$)?

I would suggest trying the Don Valley area. It's close to the Don Valley Parkway which is the main highway downtown. It's a decent area and it's about a 10 to 15 minute drive to downtown. Hotels in that area are usually cheaper. Plus parking in downtown Toronto on weekends are pretty good. Simcoe Place which is across from the convention centre and within walking distance to SkyDome and CN Tower charges $5 on weekends for parking.

Do remember it's also Canada Day weekend so that's probably another reason why rooms are so hard to come by.

Good luck in your bidding.

Also another area worth trying, if you don't mind driving a bit more, is Markham / Richmond Hill. It is also right off the DVP (which is known as the 404 in that area) and it's about twice the distance, but hotels are definitely cheaper there. It's a very nice suburban area and is home to some of the most popular Chinese shopping plazas in the city (if that interests you). I was checking Hotwire and it doesn't look like there's much of anything left so you have to wonder if Priceline has a much better supply of rooms, so I'd make sure I book something real soon.

Good luck. :)

I tried the other zones also up to $50.00 to no avail. I finally reserved a Radisson through their website in Mississauga for a total of about $73.00 USD including tax. This is an AAA rate, but you should have no problems if you are not a member. I have never been asked to show proof.

You guys are sooooo friendly and nice, thanks!

but seems i am not lucky in booking the hotel...:)

how about a 2* hotel at Don Valley or 3* hotel at markham? Do I still have the chance? and the starting price for bidding?

Here you go:

Do a Hotwire search for Toronto Downtown...

There is a 3.5* Customer Favorite offered for $67 (your price may differ slightly). I suspect that this is the Sheraton or possibly the Sutton. If you've never used Hotwire before you can use the discount code "giftcard06" at check-ou for an extra $10 off per nite... bringing you below the original $60/nite you talked about in your very first post!

If that works well for your plans i would jump on it as inventory does appear to be quite tough for these dates.

i checked hotwire, and there is nowhere showing $67...maybe I am too late at checking this?

there is a 3.5* at area of Lester B. Pearson Intl Airport YYZ, and the price is 107$...

what can i do then :)

Posted

I heard that i can also take subway to go from Mississauga to downtown, but not sure for Lester B. Pearson Intl Airport YYZ. Currently the best offer I can see on hotwire for Lester B. Pearson Intl Airport YYZ is 2* for 86$ and 3.5* for 107$.

should I take this, or should I just wait and walk in? :)

I never recommend just 'walking in'... many people think they'll get a great rate because the hotel figures the room will otherwise go unused, but the hotel's point of view is that you're not likely to drive all over town asking about rates.

I don't know much about Mississauga, but if that area works, how about the Radisson there for $78/nite?

How does that work?

it is far from the subway station...

I don't know which to take now. Mississauga is really far from downtown...

if there is any place closer with the price around 80$, i think I will take it... :)

How far is it from the train station? They do have an airport shuttle... maybe they will also drop you off at the train station? (doubtful, but call the hotel and ask... also ask what other options are available to get to downtown)

Mississauga is really not part of "Toronto" officially - it's immediately to the west of the city proper. The subway doesn't actually go to Missisauga, but just before. You can drive your car to the commuter lot (Kipling station, I believe) and take the subway from there. Since it'll be a weekend you can get the day pass for $8 which will cover unlimited travel on the TTC (Toronto Transit) for 2 adults. I would strongly recommend against taking the shuttle from the airport 'coz it's ridiculously expensive. In any case, I would actually recommend if you are staying in Mississauga you just drive downtown. It's about 25KM from downtown. Parking is fairly cheap in downtown Toronto on weekends. From the airport, take the 427 South from the airport, then QEW East which will take you right downtown. On a good day (and it being Canada Day weekend) you should get there in 20 to 25 minutes.

By the looks of it you'll have to settle for a place in the suburb. If you do prefer to take the subway North York & Markham / Richmond Hill are better areas. You can park at the Finch subway station which is much closer to downtown than Kipling.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a whole lot left on Hotwire, so Priceline may have to be it.

Good luck. :)

Can you please include the star rating, amount before taxes and fees (the amount shown on the 'splash' page, and amenities shown before purchase so that we can properly edit the title and have the data for the hotel lists. All of this information is still viewable by going to Hotwire and clicking on the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

Please also post the remainder of your stay as a NEW TOPIC.
